memory of tony lucas who inspired my generation of journalists coming only from the first we started to think in college about who we wanted to be and what we wanted to write. our generation grew up with the big shalt of narrative nonfiction work about social issues and common ground was one of the big books on the shelf. when tony passed, and a lot of people inspired came together to create a prize. so that is where this enterprise began. he has expanded gradually to include no the martin luther history prize for disdain for mark clinton from a senior executive at hunter douglas in the netherlands at the time of his death in 1897 and a deep reader and supporter of syria's history. his wife and his children lillian michael establish it as part of a lukas price project to honor him in millington family has generously underwritten this prize since the inception in 1998. coming up on 20 years. mark's wife, marion and his children, lily and michael have been involved as philanthropists, thoughtful partners, participants and we're really grateful for everything they do. as the enterprise has evolved, and it has encompassed several other areas of important support for nonfiction wri
