i want to go back to tony harris. tony, i want to you set the stage. this was the scene a short while ago as the president crossed the edmund pettus bridge, quite an entrance as they say in speech making as the motorcade crossed the bridge to the cheers of the crowd. but now he has to follow up on that speech that took place 50 years ago. give me an idea of the expectations of the crowd. how tough is it going to be for the president to knock it out of the ballpark? >> well, look, in is a favorable audience. this is an audience that is ready to a applaud and cheer for virtually anything this president has to say. but to the substance of it, look i think that this speech has to cover a couple of important areas. first of all it is this coming together of events in this country during his presidency that makes this such a wonderful kind of singular moment for him. we've been reporting and talking about the events since august of last year in ferguson, missouri, the death of michael brown. the president has clearly made it a priority and instructed his jus

we'll find out. >> tony harris live in selma, alabama, we'll go back to tony in a few moments. >>> walltreet took a slight tumble today despite a strong jobs report. the dow fell about 1% down to 17,856. the s&p and nasdaq's also lost ground. >>> we have more evidence today that america's economy is creating plenty of jobs but not much in the way of wage growth. ali velshi joining us now, and this was a strong report right? >> yeah we're definitely seeing strong overall job growth michael. the economy added 295,000 non-farm jobs that's how they measure it, but non-farm jobs in february. the economy had added more than 200,000 jobs for the longest streak since 1995. manufacturing added the smallest gain in about a year. the mining category fell by 9300, oil prices as you know plunged about 50% in the last seven months, but a lot of bright in this report michael. >> how do the numbers affect the overall unemployment rate? >> it went down but my standard advice is to ignore the unemployment rate. the denominator changes every month. in february it fell to 5.5%. it dropped from 5.7% but som

tony harris is in selma where thousands are expected sunday. tony. >> in fact you're right john. three marches and sometimes folks lose sight of that, march 7th, 1965, the first march came to be known as bloody sunday. demonstrators, protesters set across the edmond peddis bridge and they were marching fighting for voting rights. they reached the opposite side of the bridge from where we are and waiting for them were state troopers, alabama state troopers. they were on foot, they were on horseback and they had batons and after warning to stop the march to turn around they were set upon. they were beaten. tear gas was fired. a number of people were seriously injured. congressman john lewis who you had an opportunity to speak to and i know the interview is going to be running later in the program was leading that march. that was a really -- a very traumatic day. it was a day that when the images were broadcast across the nation many in the nation galvanized around african americans in the struggle for the voting rights act that was later passed in august of 1965. two women who were

i'm tony harris in new york. there is a bit of a scrum going on right now in ferguson missouri. we're about to bring a news conference from ferguson. on the resignation of the city's police chief. thomas jackson would be the sixth city employee to either step down or be fired in the wake of last week's scathing justice department report. now that report followed the police shooting death of michael brown and uncovered a history of racial bias in policing. we talk about some of the details, and we certainly learned that racist e-mails from city officials, the report found that the police department discriminateed against african-americans, that blacks were stopped more often than whites, and blacks were ticketed and treated differently in court. in the aftermath of all this the court clerk, her name is mary ann twitty. she resigned. the police captain, rick hennick, and william mudd all resigned. john shaw, and municipal judge ronald brockmeyer also resigned. let's take you back now to ferguson. there you see the mayor , james knowles iii. he'll make the announcement. let's liste
