tony robbins is my special guest of the hour. welcome to you both. >> thank you. >> i remember this happening. another outrage involving guns in america. let me start with you, nick, if i may. you were shot four times. you were paralyzed after what happened. you're in a wheelchair now. the moment that you were shot, what goes through your mind? >> what i really -- what was going through my mind was i had to get out of the high school. and really, nothing else flows through your mind. you've just got to get away. you don't have time to think about anything else. >> you were a fit, young sports-loving boy at school, suddenly you're in a wheelchair. the moment of realization for you when you know that that is going to be certainly for the foreseeable future, your new life, it must be a crushing thing to have to deal with. how did you deal with it? >> i had a lot of support. the community, my friends, and my family. probably the best thing that i could ever ask for. >> did you despair? >> i mean, i did, yeah. i did. but like i said,

joining me now, tony robbins. tony, such a polarizing issue. i do try to respect the views of people i don't agree with about this, but i find the way they deliver them sometimes very insensitive. what is your view of guns, generally? >> well, i think the first issue, for me, is what's really happening? what's really happening in our culture, and i think what's beautiful is as painful as this is, human beings can change one of two ways, there's an opportunity, or they do it because they are at a threshold. america is at a threshold. the stacking of these brutal events is where gun owners are saying something has to be done. that's creating an environment where real change can occur. what's important is for us to look at each other, no matter what side. i have friends on both sides of this issue, and it's the ability for us to get them to see, hey, listen, everybody has pure intent. we all have to want the exact same thing. that young man on earlier, gabby, mark, yourself, myself, we want to make sure our kids are safe, our family, husbands, wiv

and you say that after the first debate, even self-help guru tony robbins rang up.adding insult to injury? >> i spoke to senior obama officials, they said every democratic hack of the last 40 years was calling up wanting to be part of the debate tomorrow and tony robbins so say what's wrong with the president? we need to give him a positive attitude. >> what did you think of that? >> i thought that moment, a, was a gift to political journalists, that denver debate. b, it said so much about who obama was. the fact that was the day he didn't feel he needed to really deliver, but more importantly to me one of the most powerful scenes in the book is the young obama staffers in chicago watching the debate unfold and being horrified because they had convinced themselves that if obama was going to lose this, it was their fault, it was on the staffers. but what they saw last night was, oh, my god, our hero let us down. they were so shocked by it. >> one of the other revelations in the book is where you talk about the fact that the president faces at least ten, ten credible
