al jazeera's tonya moseley is in the pacific north-west with the latest. >> over the weekend crews were able to make progress in the recovery efforts. this is an enormous project. in some areas the debris field was as high as 75 feet. >> armed with garden tools, rescue teams tediously cyst through the mud, searching for the missing. >> the family members that i have spoken to, i think, have a very mature real sense of wanting to have hope, and wanting to find the miracle. we have provided them and are providing them every opportunity to find that miracle. we are looking for the miracle out there now. i saw four or 500 people out looking for the miracle. >> washington state commander and the governor took an aerial tour of the mud slide. more than 600 have been working at the slide around the knock. >> we have a search team out in mud to their armpits, and they've been there for a week, looking for victims. we have a fatality recovery team working with the coroner. >> the recovery team is assisting in the effort of identifying the dead. in some cases safers have only recovered body parts

tonya moseley joins us from derrington, washington. what is the latest from the ground there? >> up until a few hours ago it was raining heavily, it was a real issue. there's flooding along 530, the highway leading into oso. that water lead to pools of water that have collected on the mud, making it difficult for crews to cyst through the debris. more than 6-00 searches, made up of washington army and guard members have been on the scene. dog teams have been instrumental in the search. they are now on a 2-day break. the dogs can temporarily lose scenting abilities to their handlers have taken them off the beat to get rest. in all the debris, tree limb and mud are mementos and other materials, other things that are important possessions for those that have lost their lives. what authorities are doing is having volunteers going through the area to pick up the mementos and they'll put them in a special place and help loved ones to have access to those things. >> a lot of people, you know, lost their homes. they lost friends and family and so to be reunited with some of their phys

al jazeera tanya moseley joins us outside of derington, washington. tonyawhy has the number dropped so significantly? >> well, you can imagine this time last week, after the mud slide, it was extremely chaotic in this area. authorities were asking for folks to call in the names of people they believed were missing. fr from that mudslide. a week later, they have been able to con sol date and cross-reference. there were duplicate names and people who weren't missing in the mudslide. searchers are heading out again in the search for victims. a week after the mudslide, heavy rain soaks the crushed trees, mud and debris. >> that's all that's left of the lives lived here. earlier at 10:37 a.m., a moment of silence. the moment one week ago when oso, washington, became home to one of the words mudslides in washington state history. more than 200 crew members along with rescue dogs navigated through the flood waters in search of victims. the letters "pv" are spray painted to notify rescuers of possible victims. >> the slide hit with such force that oftentimes, the r
