>> but first let's get to the latest from meteorologist topper shutt who has been tracking sandy in the weather center. how scared should we be? >> it's kind of a little unnerving she's indicating 2 now, but remember, what she does -- she's a category 2 now, but remember, what she does in the bahamas doesn't really affect us. it's what she does after that. right now she's about 125 miles east, southeast of nassau, winds 105 miles per hour. she's moving very quickly northerly at 20 miles per hour. hurricane warnings throughout the bahamas, tropical storm warnings extended essentially for the entire coast of florida, the east coast of florida. you can see as she pounded cuba, she's now pushing north and north at a pretty good clip. again winds 105 miles per hour, remember, those are sustained winds. all right. look at the expanse now of the tropical storm warnings, essentially the entire florida coast, some watches posted for parts of coast of georgia and a little bit of south carolina. here's the track, category 2 , gusts 125 miles per hour and this is a brand-new advisory at 5:00. she t

topper shutt is in the weather center. is the worst yet to come? >> if you're west of us, yes. pretty good storm rolling through, lighter showers in montgomery county and north and west through parts of loudoun county into frederick, but we'll zoom in on some of these storms. this storm has lightning in it down to the south and wes of manassas. this is -- west of manassas. that is the front that will roll through in the next hour or so depending where you live. it's rolling through the west first obviously and then east, but pretty heavy rain down south of 28 and south of manassas, 123. this has got rainfall rates of 1 inch per hour here and 1 1/2 inches per hour there around 28. this will move off to the north and east. get ready in fairfax county, springfield, 95, producing heavy rain as you head south on 95 in the next half hour. when we come back, we'll tell you when this goes away. >>> coming up at 7:00 a former army ranger who murdered his roommate today finds out the price for his heinous crimes. see you at 7:00. >>> the view one daredevil had as he catapulted to earth a

meteorologist topper shutt and erica grow respond to your concerns about sandy and a possible super storm next. >>> we are tracking sandy now, a category 2 storm, maximum winds 105 miles per hour, wind gusts 125. she's raking the bahamas right now. she's turning northeast a little as we get into friday afternoon, goes down to a category 1, probably 85 mile- per-hour winds and then it parallels the southeast coast which is great news, really great news for florida quite frankly and for north and south carolina as well. this is saturday afternoon. it's well off the south carolina and georgia coast. we'll put it back into motion now. we're looking at the storm beginning to turn to the north and west and this is the problem as we get into tuesday of next week. this is tuesday afternoon. even though it's extra tropical winds will still be 65 miles per hour with some higher gusts. if it takes this exact track, we are going to have some winds in the metro area, heaviest bands of rain staying in northeast maryland. we are going to have gusty winds into tuesday, maybe 20 to 40 miles per hour. this

first, right to topper shutt for the latest on sandy's path. >> not much changed.trengthened a little bit, which is a little disconcerting over the past three hours. let's start with a track. it's essentially the same. moving northeast at about 14. she's about 290 miles east of hatteras and 470 miles south of new york city. she will turn eventually to the north and then northwest. this is what makes the storm unprecedented that most nor easters continued along the east coast. itthis one is making a left turn. we're looking at hurricane- force winds in delaware as we get into monday. after it rolls through it gets into south central pa. this is now tuesday night, 8:00. we still have 50 miles per hour winds. it's kind of ironic and a little bit different. we talk about hurricanes losing strength when they make landfall, but it will strengthen a little bit as it makes landfall and shortly thereafter before it finally weakens and tracks off into southern quebec eventually. i think this tracks a little too quick. i think it will slow down and sit in south central pa for

meteorologist topper shutt is in the weather center with tonight's forecast. hey, top. >> we're tracking some showers and believe it or not, lesli, a couple thunderstorms. let's start with radar. there's activity west of town headed for fauquier county north of warrenton and another heavier storm moving into howard county. that's about to cross route 32, about to cross 29 and 95 in between d.c. and baltimore. even if you look carefully, this is lightning heading out of near the culpeper area, headed into fauquier county. don't be surprised if you hear the rumble of thunder, pretty heavy storms crossing 66 moving north and east. get ready chantilly, fairfax, anybody driving out 56, slow go, brief heavy rains with it actually. you can season the line of storms and the red indicates rainfall rates of about an inch per hour with pretty good lightning. this will move across 17, across toward haymarket and across 66 of the in next 30 minutes. after that -- 66 in the next 30 minutes. after that we'll talk about drying off and getting cooler coming up. >>> a fire yest
