good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tori. this happened a couple of blocks away from the university. a lot of students live in this area. we don't know if the victim in this case was a student but it happened near main and lexington. police tell me that the university police are aware of this incident and plan on cautioning students to be careful. officers say this happened at 1:30 this morning. the woman had been out with a group of friends near a 7 slrn 1 -- with a 7/eleven and dedecided to walk -- decided to walk home alone when she was grabbed from behind. and the man told her, don't talk, don't scream, she kicked him in the groin and he ran away. she wasn't able to get a good description. there are no indications that weapons were used in this battery. the police used k-9s and a scent led them near the homestead and la fayette. but they lost the accident. police believe don't believe this is the same man suspected of raping a woman at kylie at homestead. investigators say that's because there was nothing sexual in nature

i'm tori campbell. in san jose, a neighborhood lockdown is now lifted after a shooting and attempted robbery nearby. ktvu's janine de la vega is on the scene and joins us live with who police were looking for. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. there was a massive police presence on story road. it used to be closed in both directions for the past hour and a half. it's back open. officers were looking for a man who tried to rob this check- cashing place. police saturated the area of story road near carl looking for a man armed with a gun. officers say just before 8:00 a.m., he confronted an employee of a check-cashing facility on story road showing a firearm. shots were fired. the suspect ran away into the neighborhood. police called in the s.w.a.t. team and secured a perimeter around a half-mile area. residents were told to stay inside because they believed that the gunman was hiding somewhere there. chopper 2 was above the scene when officers finally located him just after 10:30

tori and dave? >>> it's official.re's now is a specific date and time for when we'll start seeing the first cars on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. cara lui is live at treasure island to tell us what we can expect leading up to the grand opening. >> reporter: that scheduled opening of the new eastern span of the bay bridge is now just about two and a half weeks away. now, just yesterday, the bridge oversight committee voted unanimously to allow a temporary fix on the new span's faulty, cracked bolts until workers can keep the permanent retrofit. the opening will mean a closure of the bay bridge first. that will happen for just over five days when traffic is the lightest over the labor day weekend. crews will align the bridge with a tunnel at yerba buena island and then reroute and repave traffic lanes connecting the new span to the toll plaza. for commuters, that means detours, using public transportation and planning ahead. >> we might be inconveniencing some commuters. there's always public transportation. >
