i'm tori campbell. a gas leak caused some disruption on the embarcadero in san francisco by forcing evacuations in the area. david stevenson is live at the scene -- at the scene with more. >> reporter: this happened near that construction you can see. it caused a traffic headache along the embarcadero. a crew was installing a six- inch water line for a new fire hydrant when the crew hit a gas line. pg&e says that crew severed a 1- inch plastic gas line, where they will be installing the new planner to number buildings. the leak prompted police and firefighters to block off the embarcadero at broadway and to temporary evacuate pier 15. >> just wanted to make sure that wasn't creeping in some place. so we just evacuated and we are -- we're lucky. >> reporter: take a look at these aerial shots over pier 15. in injuries were reported. the leak was capped at 10:42. pg&e says the crew installing that water line didn't have appeared to have done their prep work before marking off the gas line and pg&e says it

i'm tori campbell. the cleanup is underway after that flood and mess made a midwest of the daly city neighborhood. tara moriarty was the first on the scene to bring us the dramatic pictures and is live to show us how the hillside has changed. tara? >> reporter: well, the hillside that got swept into the neighborhood, for right now, what the public crews works are trying to do is dig this street out of this landslide. tens of thousands of gallons of water mixed with mud gushed down the hillside. >> the entire lawn was covered. there was like a stream going down the street. >> reporter: he lived near the water creek where a pipe burst. >> i called 911. >> reporter: 40 people had toking evacuated -- to had to be evacuated. neighbors were in bewilderment. this woman's daughter said her car couldn't drive to work this morning. >> nobody can get out of the street. >> reporter: public crews and neighbors spent most of the morning trying to dig out of this. while the city repairs the broken pipe neighbors have

i'm tori campbell. but we begin with breaking news out of marin county where a small plane has crashed in the san rafael marsh. it happened near the smith ranch airport off highway 101 and smith ranch road near the mcginnis golf club. san rafael police say a pilot was the only person on board when the accident happened and he managed to get himself out of the plane and call 911. police say it sounds as though the plane may have slid off the runway into the marsh and that the pilot may have suffered minor injuries. we have a ktvu news crew on way to the scene and we'll continue to follow the story for you. >>> workers at the port of oakland are on strike today. christien kafton joins us live to explain why and how it is impacting business there. >> reporter: good afternoon. take a look. you can see that the workers are here at one of the entrances to the port. now, we understand that word is spreading among those workers right now that they can picket out here. they can demonstrate but they cannot block

. >>> good afternoon, i am tori campbell. we will have the kidnapping update any moment. >>> we begin with breaking news involving the arrest of a san francisco sheriff's deputy. this is a story you will see only on 2. we have been working our sources hard in the past couple of hours. ktvu's david stevenson is live at the jail in san francisco, so, david, why was the deputy arrested? >> reporter: well, tori, we have learned that san francisco sheriff's deputy bill tong was arrested at about 7:35 this morning here at jail one on 7th street behind me right here in san francisco. he faces two felony charges, second degree robbery and second degree burglary commercial. we have learned these charges stem from a november 7th robbery at a bank of america branch on balboa street in san francisco. police say this is the suspect in that case. they say that man walked into the bank branch and handed the teller a note demanding cash. if you look closely at this picture we are showing you you can see a wad of cash in his hand. police say

i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark.r 13th. >>> we're tracking developing news out of a daly city neighborhood where lozan avenue is waking up to flooded streets and cars stuck in mud. tara moriarty was the first reporter on the scene and she's live with what we're learning about the flooding that's forced evacuations. tara? >> reporter: yeah, it's really loud out here, tori, and that's because the public works have arrived. the bulldozers and water tank trucks are just swarming this area. if you look at the hillside a huge chunk of it is missing and basically all of that mud is spread out all over the neighborhood. ktvu was the first news crew to arrive on scene. a dozen people had to be evacuated. fire crews say that a water main sprung a leak near the water tank. we saw the water mixed with mud just gushing down the hillside off luzane and bonnie at 4:30 this morning. crews have it under control. the water has stopped but the cleanup will be intense. >> it was a native cast iron pipe that failed. there was a valve abo

i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark.ovember 27th. >>> well, new for you this morning, milpitas police are busy. they are reopening a very busy road after shutting it down for several hours when a suspect fired shots at a police officer during a traffic stop. now, ktvu's janine -- janine de la vega has been on this story since 4:30. what are police saying thousand? >> reporter: well, police say they are calling this an active search. they just cleared the scene about a half-hour ago and the road is back open in both directions. they have many officers working this case and they are searching for a man would was -- who was stopped for a moving violation. the driver got out of his car and started shooting at the officer and then that officer returned fire. but it's unknown if the gunman was hit. that driver, we're told, got back in his car and drove away. the officer was not hit by any bullets but did suffer minor injuries. police are being very tight- lipped about information they are releasing about the shooter. >> we're

i'm tori campbell. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. it's friday, it's another 9th. >>> we're starting with the overnight bay area storm. you saw it. you felt it. while it is clear and sunny now, that overnight storm caused a big mess, particularly in the east bay. tara moriarty is in fremont with the details of an injury crash that happened on 880. tara? >> reporter: this crash is sa reminder of why you should really slow down when the roads are wet. we're here off 880 northbound. right now, everything is dry and the sun is shiping but it wasn't like that at 2:00 this morning. the chp says the rain-slicked -- rain-slicked roads really played a big factor in this crash. a vehicle crashed and another vehicle crashed into that person. the sedan driver was found outside of his car when the chp arrived. we're not sure if he was ejected or got out of the car after the initial impact. he did suffer a massive head injury and was transported to the hospital. he's reportedly in critical condition. the chp issued a sig-alert, most of these lanes

i'm tori campbell. good morning. i've dave clark. >> it's monday, november 19th.aking news from sonoma county. four people are in the hospital because of a fire at a russian river resort. it happened at the guerneville lodge. it started about 3:45 this morning. the fire actually was knocked down in about 45 minutes. it also caused some power lines of being knocked down across river road. now, newschopper2, you see it right there. it's on its way. it will take us there in a few minutes. to road is closed between bonita avenue and state highway 116. pg&e is headed there as well to fix those downed lines. again, you can see newschopper2 in the air heading there. so far we haven't heard anything about the conditions of those four people taken to the hospital. we'll keep checking with newschopper2 as soon as they get there and bring us live pictures. we'll abring you all of that information -- we'll bring you all of that information from the scene. >>> in about 90 minutes, san jose police will be holding a news conference talking about a continuing manhunt in connectio

. >> i'm tori campbell. it's thursday, november 8th. >>> everything is back to normal at a burlington hotel that had a carbon monoxide overnight. ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty is live at the embassy suites. this is a pretty big hazmat response that affected a lot of people. tara? >> reporter: that's right. this is very close to the airport. the hotel was booked. a lot of people had flights so you can imagine that they were nervous about making them on time. behind me you can see a lot of windows are still open at the top of the hotel right there. these people got a 1:30 a.m. wakeup call that they did not expect. they were stuck out in the cold for for hours. that's because firefighters responded to a call here after midnight. crews called in hazmat, did some air sampling. and within an hour, they evacuated the building. hundreds of guests were staying here, again, the hotel booked. and the trace was a faulty boiler. >> they did an air sampling and found there was a high level of carbon monoxide. so a

i'm tori campbell. >> and good morning. i'm dave clark.it's november 26th. >>> wethe first morning commute since the thanksgiving holiday is tougher because of dense fog in many areas. ktvu's lorraine blanco is live near the bay bridge toll plaza. you've been out there since 4:30 this morning. so what is it like now, lorraine? >> dave, the fog has actually lifted quite a lot since we saw you the last time, actually in the last 15 minutes. if you take a look at this crane behind me, you can see the bottom of that crane, but you can't see the top. so there's still fog out here. and this morning, it was like a magician did a little hocus- pocus on the toll plaza. it was not to be seen until about 15, 20 minutes ago. you are now able to see the toll plaza and traffic is moving rather slow into the city. this is new video of what it is like driving in the soupy sunrise. you can't read freeway signs until you are right up on them. this is the foggiest i've seen in this area in a very long time. we drove 880 north and 80 east and the fog covered

it -- tori campbell. happening now, volunteers at glad memorial church are about to serve a thanksgiving breakfast meal. alex savage is live from glad, which will be busy serving holiday meals to the hung bring. good morning, alex. >> reporter: the thanksgiving operation in full swing, right now, here in glad. you can take a look and see all the volunteers, hundreds of them, 500 volunteers taking part in this effort. they do it every thanksgiving. over here, we have the hams are getting going, they will serve up 5000 meals to those in need later on today. just an amazing undertaking here. and all the folks come down and volunteer their time here on thanksgiving, and do their part to contribute. i want to disturb. you come down here many years, i understand? why? >> i do it for the people who need it, help them out, come down because it's a good, kind of a party for the volunteers, pretty much, there's a lot of people in need. and glad provides for the needs. that's why i come. >> reporter: everyone is in
