touringr, c-span is cities across the country, expelling american history. next, our recent visit to toledo ohio. you are watching american history tv all weekend, every weekend on c-span3. war really goes back to 1787 and the northwest ordinance that established the area that eventually became five states. they established the border that started at the bottom of lake michigan and ran east to lake erie. the toledo strip is formed by two different surveys and that difference is a wedge shaped strip that was five miles wide at the indiana border and eight miles wide as it reached lake erie. it is a pie shaped wedge that became the toledo strip that ohio and michigan started to wrangle over. really the whole point that ohio and michigan were focused on was what was back then referred to as the port of miami, being the indian term for the river. it is really that connection at the river basin in lake erie, and everybody knew that would become an important port. so both michigan and ohio wanted to be a part of that. on top of that, you have the. erie canal openi
