nbc's tracie potts is live on capitol hill now.e, some people say the goal for the other candidates right now is to keep trump from reaching those 1200 or so required delegates. >> yeah, pretty much everybody says that. his supporters would probably say that. he's on his way. not nearly as close as hillary clinton to her goal. but he's about a quarter away from that goal. and then his focus is to hillary clinton. as he put it, once i pack away florida and deal with that, and clinton. however, he should look over his shoulder because after last night, ted cruz is still a threat. he picked up delegates in texas, the biggest state. he won oklahoma. and then this morning, he won alaska, putting it all together. he's only about 100 or so delegates behind donald trump. still a threat. and that's why he's trying to consolidate the rest of the party, cruz is, saying let's everybody else drop out so we can focus on me beating donald trump. what's interesting about this race, we've seen it thus far, even after last night's results, disappoin

nbc's tracie potts joining us live to talk about more of what to watch out next. tracie, starting with the gop, senator marco rubio out, he lost in his own home state. now a race against trump and senator ted cruz. what do you think? >> and senator kasich, don't count him out yet. take a look at the celebration that kasich had last night after picking up the 66 delegates in ohio. taking ohio away from donald trump was a big deal. it slows him down. it makes him much more likely that the republicans will have to fight that out on the convention floor in cleveland this summer, as opposed to trump going in with enough delegates to clinch the nomination. make no mistake, he's still ahead in the delegate count and even further ahead. but it just looks like the trajectory at this point may not be enough for him to secure the nomination. now, the democrats, hillary clinton who is the winner in all she'll be apparently in illinois and missouri. so tight in those states it's possible those results could be contested. she is claiming a victory and now has 1600 delegates abo

tracie potts is on capitol hill to explain what we could see from republican hopefuls and party >> reporter: let's start with the republicans. and donald trump, he's leading arizona while ted cruz is leading utah. and both of them focusing on foreign policy. we saw all the candidates except one at the aipac conference here in d.c. the pro israel conference where donald trump said that we have got to be supportive of israel. in the past he's also said we have to see if there is a way to work with the palestinians. and he is taking heat from both sides, including ted cruz, about his positions. cruz said late last night that donald trump's positions change day by day. john kasich also at that conference saying that he doubts that it will be very difficult to get a two state solution until the palestinians recognize israel. now for the testimonies, they have three contests today, also a caucus in idaho. hillary clinton slamming donald trump on the israel comments saying that we need someone with steady hand, not someone who is neutral one day and pro israel the next sanders that was not at that
