tracie? >> and i know that's a big deal in california. lots of people waiting to see what if anything the president and the democratic congress can get done. they unveiled this plan yesterday. the hallmark is a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in this country. the plan includes an eight-year path to citizenship for what's predicted to be or expected to be as many as 11 million undocumented immigrants. it would apply to those who arrived in america before january 1st of this year. dreamers were brought to the e card. there's also a change in terminology instead of illegal aliens the government would use noncitizen in all of its federal laws and official communications. democrats say they will go it alone if necessary. republicans call this a non-starter. >> we are writing the next chapter in our shared story. for many of us here today, immigration reform is intensely personal. >> passing minor reforms is not enough. >> now immigration reform was a big promise of president biden during the campaign. it's something he wants to

tracie potts is there. tracie, what's the latest on president biden's stimulus bill? >> reporter: well, the stimulus bill could get a vote this week in the house. they will likely bring it up for debate after a week of trying to work behind the scenes on the details, what it will look like, including money for more vaccines. the government is behind right now, hoping to catch up with 4 million doses this week after last week's storm. it would include billions of dollars for schools, for infrastructure and schools to try to get teachers back into the classroom and students back into the classroom. and a number of other things including unemployment and money for small businesses. republicans continue to insist that this is just too much money that there's already a trillion dollars out there that hasn't been spent. >> there's over a trillion of money unspent from previous relief bills that were bipartisan. the money is still sitting in a bank account. >> we may not get a single republican vote, which means we have to get every democratic vote. >> reporter: and the aft

tracie touched on it a few moments ago. it's time for our daily covid vaccine update the latest data, facts on the cdc numbers. about how many of us have been vaccinated and over all, 56.3 million shots have been administered of that 40.3 million receiving at least one shot so about 16 million getting the full dose, two shots, but remember, even one shot, especially of moderna, is 80% effective now, overall this means 16.7% of american adults have received at least one vaccine dose but a lot of questions about these new variants, these mutations you hear about remember, all viruses mutate, and this one is no exception well, there is some good news. in a small lab study, pfizer says despite slightly reduced antibody growth, and that's getting a lot of headlines, the main part of the story is that the vaccine was still able to largely neutralize the south african type of the virus, and pfizer is talking to regulators about developing an updated version of the vaccine or some kind of booster shot if needed overall covid cases

our nbc national correspondent tracie potts has the details both sides sound positive about the meeting. >> reporter: right both sides are hopeful they'll come to some agreement, but they haven't yet. their plans are very different take a look. what the president wants do is about three times the cost of the $618 billion republican plan he's got money for state and local governments, they don't. he's got a lot more money for schools. the stimulus checks under his plan are a little bigger they want to slim it down to $1,000 but target it to lower income families. unemployment republicans would slim it to $300 a week and for three months instead of six big differences. not to mention hiking minimum wage the president wants to hike it republicans don't. there are big differences, even though the republicans say they think the meeting was productive. >> it was a very good exchange of views i wouldn't say that we came together on expected that in a two-hourith them what this meeting is not is a forum for the president to make or accept an offer the risk is not that it is too big, this packag
