nbc10's tracy davidson is live in the digital operations center. tracy, what will happen in court today? >> experts say the verdicts will not be delivered simply like here in the united states. it actually could take hours or days. here's a live look at the courtroom in south africa. in south africa, a judge, not jurors, decide a verdict. within the last 15 minutes the judge began delivering the verdict. that judge will summarize each of the 37 witnesses who testified including pistorius. then she will give us some of her own findings on how she reached the verdict. and then finally, she'll reach the verdict. pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend but he said he thought he was shooting at an intruder. if pistorius is found guilty of the most serious charge, he could face a minimum of 25 years in prison. we'll continue to monitor this feed. live in the digital operations center, tracy davidson, "nbc10 news." >>> today the nation pauses to remember the 9/11 terror attacks. 13 years ago today, two hijacked planes crashed into the world trade centers

tracy davidson is live. this video continues to shock people this morning and many people are wondering, did ray rice get off too easily not with the nfl but with the state of new jersey? >> did the prosecutor's office have that tape and still make that plea deal and did the prosecutor's office give that tape to the nfl, the nfl says no. the prosecutor's office says if ray rice completes that rehab program, the case against him will not be reopened. but here's the video, a lot of people have already seen it. watched it over and over again. tmz posted the video yesterday morning. it shows the football star knocking out his future wife inside an elevator. after it was posted online, the ravens fired rice and then the nfl suspended him indefinitely. both organizations claim they've never seen that video before yesterday. the ravens coach decided to release rice after team executives watched the video. >> it changed things, of course. it made things a little bit different. it is tough, it is hurtful and, my pain

tracy davidson is following this story live. tracy, was syria informed that these strikes were coming? >> the syrian foreign minister said the u.s. did inform syrian's representative before prior to the air strikes beginning. this video in from oev night showing several big explosions at an unidentified location in syria of the air strikes. but the u.s. military and partner nations did target fuel and weapons depots, training sites and the headquarters for the radical islamic fighters which is in the northern city of raca. the missiles were launched from "uss george h.w. bush" in the persian gulf. the decision to launch air strikes was made under tloization granted by president obama. these strikes are part of the president's plan to disrupt and destroy the militants of isis who have killed thousands, including the beheading of two american journalists. we'll keep you posted as the day goes on. tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. >>> this developing story into nbc 10. the israeli army says two suspects in the acduction and murders of th

nbc 10's tracy davidson is live in the digital operations center. tracy, how crucial is approval of this bill for the school district? >> oh, very. it's everything. it's what city and district officials have been pushing for all summer long. if it passes, it means a new flow of funding to the district, to the teachers, to the students and to programs within the district. yesterday, the house rules committee voted unanimously in favor of the $2-a-pack cigarette tax. as we said, the measure could go to the full house today. if it passes, then it still needs the senate's approval. the tax could bring in $80 million or more to help fund philadelphia public schools for the current school year. now, if the cigarette tax passes, the district obviously puts a huge dent in its budget gap. if it does not pass, it could mean massive layoffs, bigger class sizes, and potentially even closing school before christmas. we'll keep you posted on what happens online and on air. live in the digital operations center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. >>> and philadelphia pol

nbc 10's tracy davidson is live in the digital operations center. tracy, how is the president handling the concerns of congress? >> well, he met with congressional leaders yesterday, and the white house says he told them that he has the authority he needs to take action against isis in syria and iraq, but the administration will ask congress to quickly okay the arming and training of some syrian forces to back that effort. he met with the lawmakers yesterday. he met with white house -- with house speaker john boehner, house minority leader nancy pelosi, senate majority leader harry reid and senate minority leader mitch mcconnell. the white house said president obama will go forward without a formal sign-off from lawmakers on a broader military plan against isis. >> the president does not envision a scenario where he would send american combat troops to be on the ground in syria. the president also does not envision a scenario where the united states is acting alone to support these elements of the moderate syrian opposition. >> the white house also s
