we're looking at a satellite picture of typhoon trami. mind just in the cast couple of weeks we have already tracked another typhoon into china, where it brought ex -- exsessionive deaths. significant rainfall is once again moving into china throughout the day today as the storm makes landfall. we're still monitoring to see if this will officially be called a typhoon. but the state news agency for china gave a quote, and said this is the worst floods in decades for china. and taiwan is also in the mix for all of this rainfall as well. to the northwest it's not rainfall that we're watching so much as lightning strikes, because the rain as it is moving up into the dry air is evaporating. and it's very dry for the southwest and parts of idaho and oregon. we could talk about how dry it has been, how the grass and brush and trees have dried out so much, it's just standing waiting for a fire to start. a number of wildfires have already occurred in oregon, but now we'll watch the east border. today we have got thunderstorms that will be rolling

a similar situation as we saw last week with trami that moved to the north and impacted taiwan. but it pulled in the monsoon from the southwest here and that brought in these heavy rain showers. so the waters are still receding following that. this storm system very well could be bringing a similar condition. now, it is going to continue to push off here towards the north expecting it to intensify up to a severe tropical storm intensity, but it's still not going to be a big windmaker. the wind could spread out as it pushes to the north, but it's going to be a big rainmaker, in the next 24 to 72 hours possibly moving into taiwan. something we want to continue to watch out for for the risk of flooding and even landslides with it. farther to the north we have this stationary boundary. it's slowly drifting off to the east though. much of western japan going into your tuesday you're going to be seeing improving conditions following flooding we saw over the weekend. into hokkaido we have a low pressure area accompanied by an upper level trough. it's keeping things unstable just enough

several days, places like the northern philippines and taiwan have been hit hard by the rains from trami, in the past week, you can see totals of 500 to 600 millimeters, really bad flooding across parts of northern philippines as well as taiwan. we were showing pictures earlier today. here are pictures from the philippines once again. this is 80 kilometers north of manila. floods have been submerging villages and making roads impassable. a month's worth of rain has fallen in a few days and the area is claimed a place of calamity. nearly 300,000 more have been displaced but are staying with friends and relatives. so this is in the philippines, which isn't even in the direct path of this storm. what it's been doing, enhancing the southwest monsoonal flow over the philippines as the moisture flows into the storm. all of this heavy rain has been impacting portions of luzon. we'll see more of that in taiwan and as the system makes its way into southeastern china, even after it becomes a tropical depression, which is likely to do after making landfall. we'll see a lot of rain in the next three
