drivers should be seeing cal trans crews and officers begin shutting down highway 101. i want to show you what pg and e crews will be doing overnight. this is a six-foot long section of one of the cables that actually came down onto the freeway on friday night. crews are going to be replacing six different pieces of this cable, 1500 feet long each and they are going to be stringing them on to those temporary poles and then taking them all away across the freeway. pg and e crews had prep work leading up to this morning project and strung these ropes attached to replacement cables and used to pull the cables and attach them to the steel tower on the other side of the freeway and installed the temporary poles on the southbound side of the freeway. the poles are temp p rarely replacements for the steel tower that collapsed friday night. the plan is to start work promptly at 10:00 bu the the chp says crews will have to start shutting down highway 10 well before that. >> we're going to have cal trans start the closure around 9:00. the closure won't be in effect until 10:00, b

cal trans crews are working to fix the guard rail. there's also hazardous materials crews here work ing to clean up the oil spill. as we go to video now, this happened after 2:00 this morning. according to the chp the driver of the big rig told them that he fell asleep then crashed in to a guard rail and jack-knifed the lanes on southbound 880. luckily he was not hurt, no drivers hurt either. what made this complicated was approximately 30 to 40 gallons of fuel spilled in to the roadway. earlier chp said about 20 gallons spilled but they upped it. traffic has certainly been backed up for miles as crews finish this damaged guard rail, clean up the fuel, which is a very tedious process. >> we're going to be doing some testing to find that out but right now we're focusing on the areas that we can see, the areas where we do know where the diesel and oil landed. on the hard surface we handle that with absorbent, throwing some type of kitty litter on top. we mix it with a broom, agitate it a little bit, then accumulate it and put it inside
