trans, agennon agendgend m conforming people coming out of prisons. the reason the work is so important and i'm passionate about it, i'm a form erly in k s incarcerated person and i spent time in jail and prison. during my time in jail for 13 months, i noticed that there was so many black trans women like in and out of jail. during my period of time, i knew that i had made a bad decision and i knew that i was going to get back out eventually and i knew that i needed to create a change. that's when we developed our r re-entry program for non -binar people coming out of jails and prison. we are working through the support of the hrc in providing employment opportunityies for trans people coming out of jails and prisons. i think that one of the biggest issues that i have faced is housing. it's very, very challenging for me to employ them and they have no housing because the housing is so difficult and t in the cid county of san francisco. i think going to a lot of different hfa meetings trying to make a request that whmen tran people come out of jails an

i'm on the trans committee for the mayor's office on trans initiatives, and impart of the lyric fellowship for youth, and i still access their services today. thank you. >> chair fewer: thank you. next speaker, please. >> good afternoon, supervisors. my name is michelle carington. i am a lifer in bayview, and i am a member of local 261. i am here to speak on behalf of open door legal. open door legal -- i was a client five years ago when they first came to my community, a community where -- had no legal help whatsoever as far as housing, evictions, whatever the case was. we had no help. these were two people who graduated from law school who chose out of all the opportunities in san francisco, to help in the bayview community -- bayview-hunters point community, and they have been a god send. we are now reaching out to expand our services, free level and civil services to excelsior and to the fillmore districts. this money i feel will be very well spent in helping us do this expansion and help people like they helped myself and many others here in my community. i am now a three-year board m

and our mission statement basically is to increase access to quality health care for underserved trans and non-binary people in san francisco, regardless of immigration status and their lack of income. and the values that we hold true to our program, includes social justice, community investment, peer-led harm reduction, wellness, advocacy, and compassion whole-person care. just a few milestones that i mentioned earlier, the information that really speaks to more detailed information around programs and milestones. but just a few milestones -- and i think the doctor may talk about this a little bit more later. but i think just i really want to frame the way in which we've had a really extensive collaboration and partnership with the trans community and the program really came out of that partnership, which really started in 2013, where the board of supervisor adapted a resolution that deemed these surgeries as medical necessity. so it really sparked the interest and the commitments from our department to really develop a program such as ours. and with the health commission actually app

i had an inkling that trans women were a thing. but i didn't know that trans men existed. that was really hard. i looked up a tutorial. i think the google search was how to make my chest plat. flat. i got results. and it was transmen. and they used the word dysmorphia, which i had never heard before. i had a word to place this deep internal anxiety. and it was my entire body and i figured without trans people were. >> and google is like, welcome. you're in the right place. we have all the information you need. maybe more than you want. >> yeah, a little bit. yeah. >> you're deep in now. >> yeah, i was definitely overwhelming at first. >> what does dysmorphia mean? >> the anxiety and dread that fills if you are the grown up. ground up. it's acute discomfort from things an about your body. but it's things that not right and it's playing over and over in your mind. >> what do you think of this? >> it seared in my head how poorly i had handle it the first time he came out. i didn't have a context for it. >> i tried to come out nonbinary -- first. that didn't work out very well
