you can see the transamerica tower there. >> time so scope is beginning a break. i understand the south bay is not. yeah, but let's talk long-range doesn't sound like a lot of breaks yeah, you know, i've heard a lot of folks starting to say, ok, enough is enough. and so here's a look at the long-range forecast that's coming from noaa. this for the entire month of march. you can see the areas in green and yeah, almost that bull's eye as you look toward the west coast, including the bay area looking at the forecast for above normal precipitation with below normal temperatures for the better part of mars. so a storm clouds continue to roll through outside. right now. we've got some heavy rainfall really moving into the south bay right now. look at that in the san jose. it is really coming down there right now as we take closer saratoga. let's calais, campbell, you're all getting pounded by some heavier amounts of rainfall in the sunnyvale as well. some snow showers as you look toward the peaks in the east bay. but there's a lot more rain to come. here's a look at our

let's talk about our forecast now as we take this live look outside here to picture at the transamerica, san francisco. kind of give us good shot of what's happening all across the bay area. little bit of blue skies and sun and also some rain clouds still sticking around. meteorologist dave spahr here now with details. some parts of the bay area. >> are getting a break yet and the rain is returning in some of those sensitive areas to adjusting such as of the peninsula. we've been watching too, also off the tri valley. there's a a look at stormtracker 4. there you see around livermore, the cluster there. but more importantly down around the peninsula there we see it redeveloping here from daytime heating from palo alto to that problem area. and woodside, as you'll notice here. building with that intensity. again, the higher elevations tend to get all that activity going on. it's not like it was from yesterday, but again, with the leftover moisture, most areas are winding down, but it's still this leftover relatively heavier rain. we have to contend with elsewhere. the spotty showers are

a live look now at the transamerica building where things are looking well to the calm outdoors.cting a bit more rain on the way kyla. yes, they may never ending story a bit more rain on the way. it's but we are getting that break right now, which is good news for those who need to kind of clean up and be prepared for the fact that we're going to have more rain coming in next week. i wanted to start with a live look outside just to kind of show that catch a break. a little sunshine out there. the golden gate is looking gorgeous. >> and i thought let's take downtown san francisco example. today they got about 3 quarters of an inch of rain. and, you know, as you can see, adds up, of course, and we get to what we have for the month that we are little bit over what we should be about 3 quarters of an inch over that. we look at the season since january 1st and we are, you know, way above normal rate for this year so far. so if we extrapolate that and take it into the bigger picture of all of the bay area, you can see, brett, you know, 148% of normal in the north bay 144 in san francis

rather dramatic shot there of the transamerica pyramid. yeah.ouds forming. >> almost looks like a yeah. piece of art framed in someone's house side. the kind of spooky art, though, because it's it's foreboding, lawrence. we've got this any chance it stalls and just keep training. you know, there are years when these things just kind of never happened, right? this is one of those years where they all seem to be coming through. i think it's going to stall forever, but it's going to slow down and spun off the coastline. and that's why get battered by some of these winds, especially. yeah, we're going to see rounds of rain just rotating around this area of low pressure outside tonight. a nice evening out there on this first day of spring. much more interesting weather coming our way as we're going to see a big storm kind of rolling along the coastline and really intensify temperatures today, if not a lot of sunshine, but still the numbers running below the average 50's and low 60's are usually in the mid to upper 60's in many spots. numbers out the

the transamerica building there. but still not raining in the city and not yet. but chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is keeping an eye on all of us. so where are things right now? yeah, it's going to be rough night and this is where we're going to see the rain just kind of picking up steadily on and off throughout the night. all of a sudden really gets going. it just comes in waves kind like the last storm system we had last week. remember how that came in just kind of ramped up throughout the day and then all of a sudden we're starting to see very heavy rainfall around the bay area. look at this plume of moisture out there. you see the white caps there that give you an idea of some cold cloud tops coming in with that. and so this all originating near the hawaiian islands. and so it is really moisture laden is being held together by this low that's been along the coastline. that is going to ramp things up and overnight. i mean, this storm could get fierce late tonight early tomorrow morning. i think who commute? it's just going to mess early on a light shower

taking a live look outside at transamerica. pyramid in downtown san francisco. blue skies all the way. what difference a day makes? we've got kyla grogan here with more. hey kylen. hey there. you've got a gorgeous vistas back. this is certainly one of them as well as we take a live look here at the golden gate bridge. >> you know, a lot easier for folks getting in and out on their commute today across that bridge and the others, without all the wind that we had yesterday. as you can see, we're calm out there, the highest number, the map, 60 miles per hour and half moon bay, not bad at all. temperatures are a little chilly today, though. 52 degrees in san jose. a pacific are up. 53. we are starting to warm up inland spots like dublin up to about 56. 57 right now, nevada and i think the north bay, once you get that sunshine cranking up, there is going to be our warmest spot. we do still have some flooding issues. now you see what's happening down by the pedro river and the salinas river. but we have just a little bit going on with our creeks in the north bay. so j

raindrops covering our camera kind of blocking the transamerica pyramid. there. the sierra is getting a lot of snow as well from this atmospheric river. meteorologist kyla grogan here now with details. and we're looking at this camera least we can see. yeah, our camera, we can't even see what we're looking at and years ago. i could see during the noon show, right? this is donner summit and the cameras just completely covered in snow, which could give you an idea of how difficult things are. also, this is up at diamond point diamond peak rather. and you can see usually, you know, we see lake tahoe behind it. we can we can see nothing. and we're already hearing some of the ski resorts having to close down because >> they're going to be getting so much snow so quickly. that's what happens, right? you want snow but not that much. here we are taking a live look at donner pass, which is 80 and then down to 50 as well. and you can see some of that heavier snow, those darker blues starting to happen right now. this system is going to be very interesting, though, because

you can see downtown san francisco, at least half of it because the top of transamerica building is completely shrouded in the low clouds and the rain that is still falling there. now we are actively seeing the atmospheric river plunging right into the bay area. but it's attention is shifting a little bit further southward right along the central coast. that still means the risk of flooding for areas higher up along the sierra foothills as well as the state's central coast. we will see some of that attention lifting from us a bit, but we'll still see some pockets of heavy rain later today. just not as widespread as it has been so far this morning. now you can see all the green out there. we're definitely seeing less intense rainfall than we did about an hour ago. but some areas, as we mentioned, the santa cruz mountains, it's still coming down really heavy. there. you're seeing it really heavy as well for morgan hill down to kilroy and further north in the bay really coming down up in lake county as well as out in the eastern solano county compared to earlier this morning. it is diminish just
