it does not imply we're not going to go to transbay terminal. a question at hand was -- with our existing tracks, what could we accommodate? then we also tested the idea of passing tracks. this is for a segment of our corridor -- a corridor is approximately 50 miles -- we know that it was not supported by our local folks in the peninsula, but we did say if we added tracks for a segment about eight to 10 miles an those tracks were utilized by high- speed rail trains only to bypass the caltrain trains, we have to continue to make our stops. high-speed rail needs to go faster. could that bias more capacity? we also studied that option. this is the slide that luis had. the model shows us that we cannot operate such a service plan. we are building on top of the six caltrain trains. we can support up to four trains. up to two that the passing tracks and up to four with the passing tracks. this is what the model has spit out. the model is credible. we are continuing to work with high-speed rail to make and model output and bridge that to the reality of

there is a little bit of existing transbay terminal demolition left to do along first street. they cannot take that out until they put in the traffic bridge and start the excavation at that end, but essentially, the underground foundations are completely gone now that were left over from the earlier transbay terminal, and we are well into the level of excavation. the buttress work continues. but you haven't -- to give you an idea of how the site has changed a little bit, it is hard each month to see a lot of noticeable change on the overhead from the buttress, but we are moving along. we have completed as of+ last week 40 buttress shafts. the work continues this week on new shafts with 167 remaining. some highlights of the buttress work -- in the picture on the upper left, you can see some of the sound and attenuation in the material we have put up to try to cut down on the noise. the rest of the site is progressing into the excavation phase, as you can see in the far west end of the project. the difference between where we were at the end of december and now where we are at

transbay for example, when you're studying how streets would change in the neighborhood, the planning department can still look at how autos flow and move. it wouldn't live in ceqa anymore. therefore, it wouldn't be subject to ceqa lawsuits. probably of interest to this commission, if with these changes in place, all projects, all new development projects, whether they're retail, whether they're industrial, whether they're residential would be relieved of doing cumulative transportation impact analysis from the date of adoption forward. so to give you an idea, some cases, those studies can take up volumes of paper and add a year to a year and a half to approval processes. it's a big deal. project specific design issues would still be studied. where your curb cut or garage opening is, how the front of your building integrates with the streetscape or bikeway. those site-specific design issues will, of course, still be studied. it's the cumulative analysis that would no longer be necessary. all land uses would pay the fee including residential and, again, this fee would fund this cumulat
