relevant to my experience, or did you even think about, like, naming policies, which is directed at transpeople and they find information and threaten or harass them. a lot of tech companies weren't thinking about that being a form of hard -- harassment. that's not threats. it's just a name. that's why more perspective is needed and silicon valley is very insular, the people making our laws are very -- there's not a ton of -- having everybody make these decisions and not have these perspectives is frustrating and i can't even give off ol' them bass i have my own limitations. ...

so here to discuss transpeople's service in the armed force we are fortunate to have with us tonightarmy veterans who are also transgender. please welcome joey and jennifer. (applause) thank you very much for being here. let's get straight into the topic and the day as it happened. donald trump tweeted out this message, essentially banning transgender service members from serving in the military. let's talk about the impact. first and fore most, what would the upon impact be if that were to happen right now to somebody who was serving in the military as a transgender person. >> in the immediate piece are you looking at a reduction of force by nearly 15,000 service members across the board. that served in various segments or branches, different skill sets. some are highly regarded skill sets that are very valuable for the military. >> right. >> that is an immediate reduction, you are looking at a force reduction. >> when it the military there is also the issue of how you are discharged. is that something that would concern an active service member? >> yes, absolutely because that disc

if there are 10 service members that don't understand transpeople. them the opportunity to make a mistake before we even educate them. that's the kind of stuff we have to look out for. has nothing to do with the actual trans people. ainsley: this has been a big headline in the military. did you talk to your fellow marines? and if so what were they saying about the headline yesterday. >> when you enter into a brotherhood and raise your right hand to serve your country, it's amazing. you enter into a diverse world of people that are stripped down to being nothing more than human beings and then marines or then soldiers, sailors, airmen. so you learn to accept any and all kinds of people because you are in this together. there are trans people that i know and love because they served their country. there is a flip side of this coin is that those people enter into a safe and conducive environment through this policy. i just don't believe that's so. i believe these are the types of things, huge cultural things that take time. our military does some things
