, and sales up for transportation, for special taxes for transportation, so we will continue to advocate across the state for that to be pursued at the state level. also pursuing new federal and state transportation revenues on the high speed rail front, san francisco is committed to 60 million as our member's share for the mou, contribution to the early investment projects for high speed rail. 7, we have some funding 7 million approximately, that needs to be identified this spring. at to fulfill our contribution to the early investments positive train, control project. and so we will continue to work with the mayor's office and these funds and also the funding for the project in general and bringing it to the terminal which is north of the terminal in the state. on the federal appropriation side, central subway has received the funding grant agreement but they are still subject to annual appropriations by congress and so we will be working to insure that an appropriate level of funding is appropriate d every year and advocating for small starts including vanes and brt. >> new, federal t

the transportation program, it is a program that the transportation commission and mtc set up to targetimprovements for low-income community. the authority this past year had the opportunity to invest 4 million dollars. we also were able to concur on a number of capital projects and priorities here including some of the customer first projects that mta put out; important projects to improve both reliability, reduce travel time and offer real-time traffic information so people have more choices whether they want to wait for the bus or go somewhere else. this slide summarizes a lot. there are many fund programs, constantly programming and prioritizing, explaining to the sponsors the new rules. community projects, block grant projects; school grants. one of the new programs this year, many are familiar with, the one bay area grant program; i will talk about this later on. it is a hallmark in terms of really trying to integrate transportation land-use to meet the safe goals of greenhouse gas emissions. we have about 35 million dollars; last month this body took an action

this project is a vital enhancement of our public transportation system. it's going to significantly improve the movement of tens of thousands of franciscans and if you were here this past weekend when people were predicting it would be jam san francisco instead of san francisco you knew that folks were educated because of the great leadership at our mta, our county transportation, all of our transit systems and were at the highest level of educating the visitors and others to use public transportation. it will work for all of us and as we build the housing units we identified in hunter's point and treasure island and welcome more people to our great city and we are growing as a result. we are going to have the greatest subway system that can connect to our bart, to our caltrans, to up and down our muni lines. this central subway will be a great success. it will connect to some of the most densely populated and rapidly developing areas, and it will improve access to all of our vibrant communities, and really is investments like this that will foster loyalt

item 5. >> chair campos: it is now time to elect chair and vice chair of the transportation authority. i would like to begin by nominating my colleague, commissioner john avalos who in the last year has served as the chair of the plans and programs committee for the county transportation authority. all of us are very familiar with commissioner avalos's work in one of the things that i think he will bring to this body is a commitment to ensuring that there is equity income resources are allocated by this agency, making sure that the needs and interests of every district are met. and to make sure that when it happens it is done in a transparent, open way that is inclusive and allows people to voice their concerns. i had the honor of serving with commissioner avalos for four years. i am proud to have the opportunity to nominate him. he has demonstrated leadership qualities in so many ways. i know the authority will be well served, the entire city and county of san francisco will be well served, especially important as we are going to this transition, as we will find a new, who

it is being done in parallel with the regional transportation plan; the regional transportation plan is giving us feedback and we are providing feedback to both the current plan in the next one down the pike; we just finished one and are already starting the next one. i can move a bit faster now. you can see in the timeline in many cases the authority was the first on the scene to start a new trend. one of the things we saw back in 2002-03, we needed money for neighborhood transportation plans, particularly to get the pedestrians out of theneighborhood. a lot of productivity. strong community-based efforts, the bayshore station study. this is interesting. it is another community-based planning process looking at what kind of station you wanted for the bayshore session. we had redevelopment, high-speed rail plans; this was a chance for the community to weigh in an division they have for the area and help them form the larger regional discussions. by domains at the end of the story but it is a way to start the build community input and consensus. bi-county transportation study is very

i have two decades of experience in transportation policy. i seek to use transportation policy to advance social justice, strong economy, and sustainable environment. that experience includes being the director of the san francisco bicycle coalition and being the transportation policy director for spur, san francisco planning and urban research. and a project director for the san francisco transit riders union. in those jobs, especially in the latter two, i learned what it takes to provide excellent public transit as efficiently as possible and at least -- a the least possible cost to the taxpayers. and i'm proud to say that golden gate transit has done a really good job. these are hard times, as you know, for public transit agencies. we had to cut quite a bit of service, but we were smart about it and we also managed to add some service. and rider ship is increased on golden gate transit. * if reappointed, i hope to continue to work to improve golden gate transit and also to work to improve bicycle and pedestrian access and safety on the bri

but cycling is more than racing, it is a way of transport.especially for the first 7 kilometers, in combination with public transport. the last lines are important. for instance, in at the city of amsterdam, 85% of the trips are faster by bike then by car -- then by car. i do everything by bicycle. i am a slow cyclist, and i am still faster through the city. that is why most of the people in amsterdam go by bike. if your interested in funny and nice invidious, go to youtube. but you will see a lot of videos in which the bicycle and the car cooperate. these are some pictures and examples of how the public authorities can invest in cycling. this is a parking space for a cyclist. tend thousand bicycles can be stored there. -- 10,000 bicycles can be stored there. you can build a shelter for about 30,000 bicycles. now, what can employees do? many employees are working on the bicycle programs. this picture is a picture of a bicycle shelter at the company where my wife works. it is quite luxurious. that it is a lawyer's firm, 500 lawyers work there,

this is matching a federal grant of about 4 million from the metropolitan transportation transportation commission. their grant program places a heavy emphasis on project delivery of 24 months of grant award. we are recommending a multi- allocation to meet the project completion deadline. the sfmta has requested funds for the d of this project. this begins on page 96 and for future corridor work and signals and accessible pedestrian signals and other locations. you can view a map of the locations. the sfmta has has plans to review the conduit conditions at 10 additional locations along this street with pedestrian counsel down the signals but have deteriorated conduit. the sfmta is coordinating this project. the sfmta

it's pretty good for transportation. there are some projected adjustments, if will you in the state transit assistance, which is a key source of operating funds for this agency. we have confirmed with our cfo, despite of that fluctuation in that fund source, our budget is okay. fairly conserve estimate that allows for the fluctuation in that fund source. that fund source used to be a line item in the budget, but you recall a couple of years ago there was a gas tax swap, a complicated maneuver to ensure that transportation funds continued to flow. the result is that the state transit assistance is now based on the details sales tax receipts. that is a fluctuating amount of money and therefore we only rely on the projections over the course of the year. so far it looks pretty good. the other big news is that the state is looking pretty good. troop prop 30 passed, significant dollars in projected revenue. so i think we find ourselves in a cautiously optimistic time. we'll be following that as the year unfolds. we participat

we are working with the planning department on the land use transportation strategy . the last 3 things we want to highlight 2 are the neighborhood transportation studies. awarded to the authority. the first one is the mobility study this is looking well the vehicle sharing pilot program is one of the recommendations coming out of the study. transportation working group and many city agencies particularly the department of the health and the heel zone initiative we hosted last month a vehicle sharing workshop. to share experiences community run vehicle sharing programs to give that feedback to the bay view community group who identified that as their top priority this group had six meetings our final meeting on march 12th where the final deliverable will be a draft business plan for a vehicle sharing pilot program to seek discretionary grants. on february 13 we have a first public meeting that was very well attended there will be an out research summary on our website short ly the next public event meeting late spring early summer. the very last thing i want to mention
