broadly looking at the transportation issues that led to the idea of what are known as pier 5 and transportation improvements which the m line integration was one of them. the purpose was to look at taking the m over to the west side of the street so that the crossing would be straight. the image here shows what that looks like as far as the density of the land where it becomes visible. i'll talk about the existing needs not corridor. several big ones related to transportation the first one is about the speed and reliability traveling 9 and a half miles per hour conflicts with the vehicles. a second oh, that looks better the second need is the access to transit we are we have a high ridership stop at the university and johnstown and all the folks boarding there if the station happened to be the highest ridership you have thousands of students crossing the highway 6 percent of the facility accidents occur here. so building on a version of american people you got to the park merced agreement taking them over to the west side of the street. the idea here was to look at it building upon that side pa

in my city of oldsmar i was able to get federal transportation funds through the surface transportation reauthorization to complete glens falls trail. for those who are familiar with baltimore baltimore was designed by olmsted. he designed the communities connected by greenways. as we became more urban and as time went forward that green space was built over. the glens falls watershed was one of those trails that have been built over. we have reclaimed the falls nl 30 communities are connected where people can walk and get to know each other. these were communities that were in many cases trapped because of the economic of the circumstances. ..

. >> colleagues, this month at the transportation authority, we focus on safety and on the latter we are pleased to see the project celebrate the opening in late january, this project was a great example of community involvement and interagency cooperations resulting in the complete project that serves as a model for urban design and i would like to recognize commissioner campos for his leadership on this project, based on the two year process, that includes the series of public meetings and workshops the project improved safety for infrastructure for bicyclists and pedestrians and enhances landscaping and traffic calming and repavementing. and we have the transportation contributed $3.4 million in agency blocking to the 3.4 million project. going forward, in march, we are looking forward to two great events, on march fourth, commissioner farrell and i will be with the procidio trust with the opening of one of our first prop aaa vehicle registration projects and they are a pedestrian gap closure projects on march fourth and on the 7th, kim and i will be attending the ground breaking

transportation network. the president's 2015 budget request for the federal railroad administration is a blueprint for a four year, $19 billion rail reauthorization that builds upon existing rail policy. and the $23 billion portfolio of investments made since 2009. and in the president's proposal, for the first time, rail will be put on par with other transportation modes with its own source of dedicated funding. it's part of a rail account within the transportation trust fund. and that's huge. that's a game changer. [ applause ] this is part of a comprehensive strategy for building a high performing rail network by investing in safety, rectifying decades of historic underinvestment. and providing competitive grants for market base enhancements of the nation's rail network. in addition to empowering us to continue investing in rail enhancement, the budget includes $825 million in 2015 to support the installation of positive train control on the nation's commuter railroads. that's another game changer. ptc, p

the central subway projects is not in the mayors transportation task force recommendation proprietor projects and for good reason. given it's ridership low new ridership numbers and it's taking away so moved so much money from muni and the decrease of the transit in north city because of the expensive costs many people in the northeast and throughout the quadrant have opposed the center project but certainly any extension forward. san francisco's total vehicle split is already pretty bad 17 percent only on public transit much better promotions can lead to a integrated citywide system neighborhoods need to weigh in for study one hundred and 73 thousand is not a small sum if we were to study the improvements for the city projects that could be implemented quickly and the instead of the studies that were cut >> city anyone else who wants to speak please step forward. >> i'm for the central subway and i want you to approve the funding for it. and also expanding to north beach and inform fisherman's wharf. i live on the f line it's crowded with toufrtsdz going to fisherman's wharf so this

there's not so much we can do on the housing but on the transportation not just lowering the costs but the transportation service we have a better and we're successful in implementing the - we can help people not rile on cars but ride muni. there's an inherent affordability. before google stepped forward diode and offered to fund free muni for a low to moderate use for 2 years that's been taken care of. and including the free murn to 18-years old because many 18-years old are still in high school. we could do the same for seniors and people of sdabtd to low to moderate income those folks are being squeezed so we could bring that program to them as well, of course, those will reduce revenues. the lifetime fair is our half price fair for adults 50 percent we could discount it beyond 50 percent and if we were to the last point if we were to make muni free for low and moderate income use eir seniors and sdabltd folks we could there muni for the high-end up to 50 percent discount which is more consistent with how many other transit transportation doesn't it the revenue loss is trying to mov

in the november ballot to help fund the transportation safety projects. i want to repeat what we heard in public comment earlier about the fdr democratic club pedestrian safety forum. i think this is an important forum that we want feedback from people with disabilities. the reminder that the pedestrian safety forum will be held next thursday, february 27th, the doors open at 6:00 p.m.. at the first congregation church at polk street and bush. i'm hoping that one or more of you can come to that. also on the pedestrian safety front, i want to let you know our office is looking at the curb ramp program. by way of background, each year our office has a budget of about $4.5 million that we use to build curb ramps for people who have asked for them. this is what we call our ada transition plan for curb ramp construction. people who make the request are people with mobility disabilities who use a certain route to get home or to work or school and they need curb ramps to make sure their path is accessible and safe. one quick reminder that our funds, $4.5 million
