. -- transportation authority. i am glad that we are able to hostess for the third time in a decade. i have the honor of introducing the official welcome to the city, edwin lee, the 43rd mayor of the city and county of san francisco. a former city administrator, former director of public works for san francisco. he was appointed unanimously as the successor mayor in 2011 to fill the remaining year of former mayor gavin newsom's term. as you know, former mayor newsom was sworn in as the lieutenant governor in january to 10 -- 2010. mayor lee is the first asian- american mayor in the city's history. 2010, mayor lee was appointed to a second term by mayor newsom. his appointment at the time was confirmed unanimously by the board of supervisors. as city administrator, he spearheaded reform that would be reduced the size and cost of government, from reducing the vehicle fleet, to consolidating departments, to saving tax dollars. he implemented the city's move to cleaner vehicles and infrastructure to support electric ve

the municipal transportation authority board of directors recently approved an $8 million payment fromthe trust fund. they abolished this when they passed proposition be in 2010. although the board of directors approved this. mayor lee: it would give the san francisco mta the opportunity to modernize their work rules. while we will not have to make a similar payment in the future, this one was, as they say, already on the books. also from a fairness perspective, the rank-and-file bus drivers had every reason to expectation that the last payment would be made for the fiscal year proceeding the passage of prop g. and i am also glad you asked about the implementation of prop g broadly, because this will lead to better muni systems. we are making solid progress at the mta in implementing the current contract that was negotiated under prop g, hiring port -- part-time operators and accident review, i think we will see benefits of prop g this year and going forward. the purpose was for the mta to negotiate a contract that would support service while being fair to the operators. driving a bus

this is the first time that this information is being presented to the transportation authority, and i think there were so many useful nuggets of this information that the time that it might take to really appreciate some of this information may not be afforded perhaps in this body, so i will suggest to this chair of plans and programs that this not be the last conversation based on the details that are being presented today, and that this be carried over into committee, but i know it was important for all of us to hear this at first swoop, based on what has been presented, especially with the new director of mta and chief executive director that is also present. i also want to highlight that as supervisor, supervisor campos remarked that this is the first time and audit had been funded, for the most part, by the transportation authority as a way to help foster a level of interconnection between ta and mta. and earlier in the time when this was introduced as an idea to members of the mta, especially members that are no longer with the mta, this was not well received, and i believe th
