another issue we might want to talk about here on this show, which is the fact that the transportation security administration, the tsa, runs the checkpoints for airlines and they do a very good job of that. but their mandate is to make sure that the wrong things don't get on airplanes, not necessarily that the amount of things is checked. so the tsa doesn't check the number of bags going through or the size of bags. that's not their mandate. nor am i necessarily suggesting it should be. but the result of that is that customers can bring anything through the security point as long as it passes the screen and then we end up with it at the gate and that's when we end up with the no room on the airplane for it. if you go to europe, for example, the situation is a little different. the security regulators in europe also run by federal kind of officials, they are very rigid about the size that you can bring through the security point. so european airlines generally don't have this problem because it's taken care of at the security point. in the u.s., we don't do it that way. there's nothing wrong with that. the t.
