labor day travel rush is marking end of a record setting summer travel season. shawn chitnis has more now on how things are going. >> reporter: it's a busy day and things are moving. that early morning rush for first flights has come and gone. look at the situation torr security. tsa lines are starting to grow a little bit again but not as long as we saw when we first arrived shortly before 6:00 a.m. look at the line that was going well past security, around baggage claim, and then out to the entrance of the terminal at terminal two. that line maintained for about an hour or so and then the situation got better. talking to someone in the line who was headed to las vegas, he showed up three hours before his flight. he was surprised to see how long the line was but he said it's a great sign for the need and value that this airport brings to not only oakland but the east bay. >> people who prefer to come to oakland and leave instead of crossing the bay and going into san francisco or going to san jose, it's exciting to see that there is enough economic stability in

putting the brakes on this year's holiday travel. it's 529 statewide in california right now, 526 a week ago. reporting from rodeo jana katsuyama ktvu fox two news, oakland international is expecting a nearly 88% increase in travelers over the labor day holiday weekend compared to pre-pandemic levels. the airport estimates 210,000 travelers will pass through the airport through tuesday. the busiest days expected to be today and monday. it's also the busiest day for travel at san jose mineta airport. the airport expects nearly 22,000 outbound travelers today. officials say this year's labor day travel period is from now through next friday, next friday, expected to be the second busiest day for the airport. there's something else many travelers have to prepare for. caltrans has closed all westbound lanes of interstate 80 so that the final phase of repaving can begin. ktvu went inside the construction zone after the highway was closed. and you can see the work that is underway there. here's a look at where interstate 80 will be closed
