karen travers is joining u uthis morning with more on the emotional testimony. karen?ning, peggy. good morning, daniel. this was an unprecededted meeting at the fda. and breast cancer survivors were making emotional appeals to keep their access to a drug they say is saving their life. five years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, pat howard says she can't believe she has to b b for the drug that she says is keeping her and many other women alive. >> due to avastin i'm experiencing a quality of life that is nothing short of miraculous. >> reporter: doctors and patients like howard made personal appeals to the fda to keep the breast cancer drug avastin available to them. >> i believe avastin coming off the market would b bdevastating to my breast cancer patients. >> reporter: the drug was approved in 2008 to treat advance-stage breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and is considered incurable. last july the fda voted to revoke the drug for breast cancer treatment, over concerns about its effectiveness and side effects like holes in the stomach

as you mentioned before here in fairfield on the 100 block of travers boulevard where last night just before 8:00 a store owner called police and said that he had been attacked and that he needed an ambulance. at that point the ambulance arrived on scene and took him to the trauma center and unfortunately, he died shortly thereafter. now, police at this time aren't releasing any of the details about the suspect or any of the details about the victim. they are saying that there were three suspects and they have confirmed that -- or witnesses have confirmed that the vehicle that they saw was a late model honda, either tan or brown in color. and police have in fact confirmed that several items were stolen during that robbery including a cash register and a video recorder. but at this point, we don't have a lot of details. as i said, the actual location of the business is not being released. we do know, however, that it is at a busy intersection in fairfield off travis boulevard and police are hopeful that somebody might have been in the area last night between 6 and 8 p.m. and they reque

karen travers has the very latest from washington this morning.r: good morning, peggy. good morning, daniel. the clock is ticking toward that important august 2nd deadline to raise the nation's debt ceiling. yesterday, there was a critical setback on capitol hill, making a deal unlikely. after seven weeks, nearly a dozen meetings, and seemingly little progress, the bipartisan debt negotiations have broken down. house majority leader eric cantor and senator jon kyl pulled out of the talks. >> i think those talks could continue if they're willing to take the tax hikes off the table. >> yes, we do want to remove tax subsidies for big oil. we want to remove tax breaks for corporations that send jobs overseas. that list goes on. i don't know that that's a reason to walk away from the table. >> reporter: the group had zeroed in on about $1 trillion in cuts. but republicans insisted that at least $2.5 trillion in cuts would be needed to get them on board. and that's where they hit the logjam. republicans dug in their heels on tax increases. and democrats
