didn't have to go after trayvon martin. the guy was unarmed, 17-year-old kid with a bag of skittles. i just don't understand why he can successfully claim complete self-defense when all of the aggressive action until the point of this collision is from him. he's got out the car. he's defied advice of the authorities on the phone, and as she said there, rachel, in her testimony, would she have carried on talking to him on the telephone right to that point, if trayvon was the guy going after zimmerman. >> right, if you're hiding in the bushes in the darkness waiting to assault someone, why are you on the phone talking to your girlfriend or your friend? that's a problem that the defense absolutely has. the other problem is george zimmerman's inconsistent versions. you know, we're grilling this 19-year-old. she's not on trial. george zimmerman is and he's given multiple accounts with slightly different versions of what trayvon martin is saying to him -- >> vinnie, he had a lawful right to be there, and that's what the -- >> you

he was going after trayvon martin. less than four minutes after that defendant hung up, with sean, rachel, the girl in miami, heard trayvon martin say what are you following me for? and then trayvon martin's went dead. the first two officers to trayvon martin's body found it exactly like that defendant left. it face down, his hands clutching his chest. he was dressed in white tennis shoes and long khak i pants and a dark hooded gray sweatshirt and had a plastic dark gray watch on his left wrist, the little ear buds that he was talking to rachel on the phone were right next to his head and his phone was right next to his body. >> those are the highlights of prosecutor's opening statement to the jury. six women, four of them white and one of them hispanic and the defense co-counsel, taking a decidedly different approach less dramatic and subdued and using attempted humor trying to lighten the mood of the jury which is always risky. >> this is a sad case, of course. as one of you fellow jurorors commented in the selection

so he followed trayvon martin.going to be their argument. >> now, ken, is this as important in your view as faith believes. and why did the defense fight so hard to try to keep these tapes out? >> exactly. she's correct. it is very important evidence. there were 50 phone calls. the judge made a very sound, legal judgment to allow in five of those calls. it's intertwined evidence or known in florida as context evidence. it shows the context and the level of frustration that's built up over time by the defendant. and why he then decides to pursue trayvon martin on the night he was murdered. so this evidence not taken alone but connected to the other testimony and the other evidence in the case becomes a very powerful weapon that the prosecution can use using real life evidence, real phone calls made by the defendant that all point to the end result that the prosecution wants which is the jury to determine that he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. >> now, faith, you referred to this. listen to what mr. zimmerman sa
