preference was to continue these items because of the concerns that were raised by residents of treasure island, who were very worried about the fact that there is no island resident that has been nominated and that the one person who lives on the island who is currently serving on the tida board was not renominated. when asked about that, the mayor's office indicated they would open an application and have requested applications from residents of the island. it should be noted, though, that currently, there is no vacancy, and that doug shoemaker is serving on the board, and we were informed that he would be asked to step down so that the resident of the island could fill that vacancy. what i have indicated and what i continue to believe is that it is very unfortunate that representation of island residents is something that came up after the fact, that it -- if indeed it was important to us to have a representative from the island, why would that not be considered before the entire set of nominations was forwarded to the rules committee? i want to underscore that the specific things that each

i join with a coalition of other community organizations, and i am one of the founders of the treasure island homeless development initiative. i have been working to try to realize this project was a potential to address homelessness and the issues in a proactive and positive way and -- in the context of a major redevelopment project, really a whole new town in san francisco. it is a unique opportunity, and i have worked really hard on trying to realize possibilities. i focused over the years on the community-building aspects and the community benefit aspect of the project. i would hope to continue to do that. of course, the whole development agreement is coming to you for your detailed consideration next year and approval, but after that, there are many details yet to be worked out, necessarily. the community benefit program now is sketched out, but it is not fully detail. the program for new facilities is sketched out, but again, no details for how it will work. also, the arrangements for the master h.o.a., as they call it -- that will be responsible for maintaining the neighborhoods have n

i think i have experience that could contribute to the treasure island development board and actually, the development of a new neighborhood in san francisco, which is a really exciting prospect for me to be part of. i know the current members of the board and worked with them over the years. as they have said and i will say, it is very important that the residents who are currently there in treasure island are able to stay there. i would support policies that would provide opportunities for them to stay there during the development of new housing, making sure that's other housing is developed before we take down the existing housing so they can continue to live on the island and be able to participate in this new neighborhood. i know that there is a very successful collaborative of nonprofit organizations. i know many of them. i look forward to working with them. a lot of the work has been done in terms of building the community-based and the community concepts to move forward with treasure island. as i said, i would like to be able to use whatever experience i have in community deve

my mother was one of six children where they regularly visited treasure island. supervisor alioto-, your family might have spoken about that. my father was an immigrant from china. he was invited by the government because he was a graduate of the naval academy. they made a visit to treasure island in 1955 and that is where he met my mother's family. in 1959, he got married to my mother. i speak in appointment of linda richardson. i take note that it is important to have resident input. it sounds like there is enough resident in put and there will be a seat reserved for a resident. i have known her for at least a decade. she is a broad coalition builder. she has professional expertise and personal attributes of listening to people and being thoughtful and methodical, and moving things forward. it is important that the project not be stalled because of appointment concerns. i think treasure island will bring back economic vitality to the city in terms of recreation, housing, and opportunity for small business. linder richardson has served on the small business comm

want to check whether or not there was good faith, we have a chair of the tida board, who is a treasure island resident, is very active in island affairs, very active obviously on the board of directors, very well liked and respected by residents -- i mean, if you spend any time over at treasure island or with treasure island residents, these are typically people who already feel like second-class san franciscans because they are out on the island and do not have many of the same things we take for granted here. we have seen it when we discussed bus service. we saw at the school district when we discussed deliberations on the closure of the school. already, we have several thousand san franciscans out there. we have folks who are formerly homeless in terms of many of the programs that are on the island, and it is separated physically from the rest of san francisco. then, we went and got to get an island resident, which is by no means -- i'm friendly with mr. stephens, but in no way is the in my political camp or a close ally of mine, but he is a san franciscan who has been active and has done

the number of units that we are bringing to the side exceeds what is proposed for treasure island. i wanted to say that and let that stand in the room because it is not the end. while i believe in more transit- oriented development, i think the retrofitting of the suburbia has to occur around it being more gradual and parts of the sites and be more responsive to the setting. >> her last comments because it echoes of my thoughts. the site has to be intensified, there is no question about it. the ecological situation out there is not good, it hasn't been good, and it is not sustainable. in my opinion, it is a bit overdone. it is a bit too much in intensification. i think the scattering of buildings, the way it is laid out so far, it means to be worked. i agree with commissioner moore as to the lot of buildings which do not, in my mind, create a good landscape for good land-use plan. i don't know because i have not seen it yet, but they take shadows and the consideration as far as the open space? i don't want to go as deep into debt as studies, and don't mean that as we have had to do
