she joins us at treasure island with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, frank and grace. a lot of cyclists and pedestrians are excited about finally being able to cross into the city using the bay bridge but there's one big problem. as that plan stands right now, that path would only run along half of the bridge stretching from oakland to treasure island. and so cyclists would still have no way to be able to get into the city by using the bay bridge. [ signal breakup ] >> reporter: there is a solution that has been proposed for this. areas of the bike path that could be added to the west span by attaching it to the sides of the bridge presenting a new problem for people trying to cross the bridge. a study showed that that additional weight of the two bike paths might cause the bridge to flatten reducing clearance for the shifts passing under the bridge. that would require a major structural change to fix that and it's a type of structural change that's never been attempted on a bridge that's the size of the bay bri
