check out the foggy and smoky start on the treasure island camera.own tint indicating just how smoky and dirty the air is. we're looking at temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s at this hour. i want to talk about the science behind the orange skies that we saw all day yesterday. we have these massive wildfires burning nearby and about 150 miles away from us and when we have smoke from these wildfires, they can actually rise thousands of feet up into the air. and travel hundreds of miles away. that's exactly what we saw. we had the upper level winds that transported all of that smoke into the bay area. and the reason why we have those orange skies is what we call rayleigh scattering. we're looking at the depth and density of the smoke particles in the atmosphere. so all of the smoke particles scattered the light. and that actually absorbs the blue light so what you have left are those orange and red colors that you see. so that's why we have that perpetual sunset yesterda. also we had that marine layer. it was about 1,000 to 1500 feet deep. that oc

here is a look at the treasure island camera this morning.e are starting off our day with hazy, cloudy skies and patchy fog and santa rosa has a foggy start at 53, one of the cooler spots and upper 50s for concord and for livermore and san francisco and low 60s for oakland and san jose. this low pressure system is ushering in that seabreeze and it will continue to increase of that marine influence through the week as that low moves closer to us. through thursday and friday, that will be the better day for the air quality because of that low moving even closer. it will be needing rainfall to the northwest and they are burning in oregon and washington state and that will help firefighting efforts there and even for northern california, eureka could be some rain with the system and we could even see through thursday and friday, a little bit of drizzle. that is a good thing as we look to the end of the workweek. in the meantime, san jose is here and then mid 80s for concord and pleasant hill and mid-sixties in san francisco and low 70s for oaklan
