trevon martin, a high school junior, as shot dead in a gated community in sanford.rying a weapon. he was visiting family members and he was going to spend the evening watching a basketball game. he went out to buy some snacks and never made it back. of he was just 17 years old. now, the man who shot him hasn't been charged. he's claiming self-defense and the case is raising new questions about florida's self-defense law. more on that in a moment. first david matting lee has the details. >> reporter: trevon martin walked out of this convenience store buying a bottle of iced tea and pack of candy, goodies in preparation of watching the nba all-star game. he would have easily made it back to the condo where he was visiting in time for tipoff. it's possible that he entered the neighborhood here, cutting between the two buildings off of the main road there on his way home. it should have been about a ten-minute walk, a little less than half a mile, an even though it was a little after dark, his family probably wasn't concerned at all. this was generally regarded as a saf

it's been two weeks since 17-year-old trevon martin was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch captain. earlier i asked attorney holly hughes about what charges the shooter could face if he's arrested. >> i don't understand why he's not facing them already. >> really? >> because what we're talking about, he's an unarmed young man. so how in the world did you shoot him? that is not equal force. that is not self-defense because you can't -- you know, if somebody punches you, you can't take out an uzi and cut him in half, okay? it has to be equal force in order to be self-defense. so when we're talking about an unarmed young man, i'm surprised we haven't seen charges yet. but now that we are bringing light to the story, you know, you and i are talking about it here on cnn, the world is going to be talking about it, hopefully we will see something done because he was advised, don't interfere with this young man. >> that was holly hughes. the police chief insists his department is conducting a full investigation and will release information to the state attorney's office soon. >>> flight at
