i want to show you what we look like 12 hours ago the tri- valley because in addition to have it be real pretty, it is a good indicator of how we cooled everybody down today and you could see the view from highland peak and this looks out over the tri-valley. so livermore is out there in the distance and i went back 12 hours ago and look at the light from sunrise. that is the marine layer going onshore, so the coast is back that way and it looks like you're driving down 580 and the clouds disappear by the time we get to 9:00 in the morning and then the sunshine was away for the rest of the day but the clouds got this far inland it did really help today and temperatures did not get out of the mid 80s in the tri-valley and if we look at the current numbers now it is only 76 in livermore and san jose at 74 and that is the view behind me right now with concord at 78. this was the coolest day for those inland valleys and you will have to warm back up again tomorrow but only into the low 90s that is basically what you have been doing and today is the day that stands out and tomorrow you will g

the tri-valley in concord will still see some wind gusts. san jose 85 degrees.k into the 60s for san francisco, 73 degrees in oakland and north bay temperatures a lot more comfortable. those numbers in the low to mid-80s. moderates tomorrow technically is an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke. it will be in the inland east bay hills and into the north bay. but watch the effect of a normal sea breeze. we see the blue on the map here, and by the time we get to tuesday, there is a big change. lake county and maybe northern napa county might see smoke at times, but for most of the bay area the clouds clear out thanks to the wind. but the wind over the sierra will be a big problem over the next two days.caldor fire as those fires get pushed off to the east. look at the inland numbers on tuesday. mid-80s around livermore, low 80s otherwise. i think you'll notice the skies turning a bit more blue wednesday and thursday. in san francisco you have the drizzle and mist back in the forecast. valley temperatures once we get to tuesday should stay in the 80s and then

and as we take a live look at the tri-valley, a little less hazy than it was earlier today. >> so howg will that last? chief meteorologist paul heggen is watching the wind. >>> unfortunately we are going to see that smoke blowing into the bay area, maybe not directly from the caldor fire, but as the wind shift later this week we could get some of that as well. it's remarkable to see it from space. this is the view from ground level, one of the u.s. forest service cameras from armstrong lookout. you can put this in motion and see all of that smoke billowing up off the caldor fire as it just exploded in size, from 6500 acres this morning to over 30,000 acres. those white clouds at the top are the pyro cumulus clouds, as the fire actually creates its own weather. that smoke blowing downwind, this is the live view from heavenly ski resort in south lake tahoe. does that look familiar? it's awfully reminiscent of what we had back in september. i don't think skies in the bay area are going to look like this over the next couple of days, but we are going to get some of that surface level smok

low 80s for the warmest highs tomorrow, tri valley, morgan hills. mid-60s from san francisco to oakland. the smoke has been kind of pushed away thanks to those strong southwest winds aloft. but what we'll have to watch as a change in the wind as we head towards the end of next week. not only is it going to bring us hotter temperatures, valleys in the 90s, near 100 degrees. we might also see a little bit of a north wind. you know what happened when we had the north wind wednesday and thursday of this week, that brought down the smoke from those ongoing fires in northwestern california and the dixie fire. we'll have to watch air quality later this week. look at your ten-day outlook for temperatures. napa, cool finish to the weekend, hot finish to the week. mid-90s in reach towards next week. livermore could see triple digits towards next weekend. san jose, we could see temperatures closer to the 90s next weekend. much like the heat episodes we've seen in the summer, san francisco, maybe mid-70s. it is another mostly valley heat event towards the end o

no getting pushed a little bit further to the east and inland in the east bay especially in the tri-valley, where the air quality has either been unhealthy for sensitive groups or just flat out unhealthy. the onshore wind is going to have an effect on our air quality over the next couple days. tomorrow i think we're still going to max out in that unhealthy for sensitive groups category for the north bay and inland in the east bay at least we stay out of the red around the central band along the coast. air quality is going to be fine because that onshore breeze is going to be with us. i think things are going to max out in the moderate allegory for the south-central bay and the santa clara valley, and more improvement is in store for sunday. we tracked the storm with futurecast ground level smoke that we have to worry about when we breathe. that's coming up in the full forecast. >>> check out a thick layer of smoke also drifting to utah. visibility dropping below two miles in many areas, including right there in salt lake city. here's the reason for all that smoke. the latest on the dixie a

by sunday we will be looking at some mid 90s possible around the tri-valley. towards walnut creek, probably we're seeing most of the haze ear skies towards inland contra costa county. the fog has cleared out with mid level clouds above, 62 degrees, wind out of the west at 15 miles per hour in san francisco. the sea breeze is making a difference during the midday and evening hours as it applies to air quality. you have the air quality advisory again tomorrow. notice how the concentration of near-surface smoke pick up towards the morning because the sea breeze backs off a bit overnight. in the north bay, to inland places like the tri-valley for the morning you may notice the smoke extra thick in the morning, and as the breeze picks up for the afternoon we should see better air quality for outdoor plans but temperatures will be climbing over the next few days. a little bit of inland haze with that smoke. you are temperatures in upper 50s and low 60s to start your day, and then highs tomorrow, 85 in san jose. close to 80 in santa cruz. san francisco, upper 60 fs.

we work our way back up over toward the tri-valley. livermore and dublin are reading moderate at this hour. it is good for the rest of the bay area. santa rosa is holding onto green. it will be moderate for today which was put out by the air quality management district. that is your blanket forecast. there is enough smoke left over that we could be in the moderate category for a good portion of today. if we watch the high-resolution smoke forecast, you can see smoke over the bay area now. see this little circulation out here? it shows up in the smoke. that is a weak little coastal eddie wrapping some smoke into it. so we are not pulling and smoke directly from the wildfires at least not down here at ground level. all of the smoke pushed out over the coast, there is a supply of smoke just sitting out there. even though we've got a helpful onshore flow, it is tapping into smoke off of the coast and pulling it back into the bay. so we will not clear out the smoke entirely. since we are not pulling it indirectly from the fires, it is bette

it is still gray right there on the front lines and as we go into the tri-valley, this is 580 right now, you have pleasanton on the right, w on the left to right in the heart of the tri-valley and it is sunny. temperatures, mid 60s for oakland, 83 in concord, basically everything we just saw is going to repeat pick of the marine layer fills and again tomorrow, it burns back to the beaches by the afternoon and this puts us totally average pick up if you have been attention to the weather, probably not, the numbers are right where they should be for this time of year. upper 70s to low 80s in the southbay, the numbers for the inland east bay still warm but much better than they were. upper at 80s, back into the bay, mid 60s, mid-80s for the values of marin, even 80 for santa rosa, which keeps you right, even a few degrees below average. we are not changing so the whole display we just looked at is likely going to repeat for the next seven days even for those in the valleys of the east bay, going to keep you out of the heat for a while. >>> in oakland eighth-grader is the strongest 13-year-
