it could still be a weak tropical storm as it moves in before weakening to an area of low pressure or the remnants of tropical storm newton. notice the main track takes it through southeast arizona, southeast of the valley. tropical system moves in will be through southeast arizona. there are wind advisories posted for tucson and areas to the south as that's where the storm will enter the state. and the biggest rain concerns, the flash flooding concerns will be across the southeastern pocket of our state. the flash flood watches in effect through 8:00 this evening. the immediate phoenix metro is no longer under the watch. but the higher terrain to the east, the areas in pa knell county under the flash flood watch. in the phoenix metro, not to say we won't get pockets of heavier rainfall. but the threat is a little bit lower as the track takes the storm to the southeast. from casa grande to douglas to nogales, these are the key areas. we could see heavy rain and dangerous flash flooding as the system works its way to show outer bands. and we'll see scattered chances for showers and storms over the next 12 to 24 hours befor

remnants of tropical storm newton brought cooler temperatures, clouds and spotty and sporadic showers. a cell dumped a lot of rain west of maricopa flooding several sections of state route 238. at one point during the morning, adot shut down a 20 mile stretch of the two lane county highway because of flooding. adot brought trucks to pump the water out. the rains caused a bit of an annoyance for the truckers who use this road but no major problems. truckers p county were worried about stormy weather and were relieved that road conditions remain clear and the winds remain calm. >> i have been driving since this morning and came from vegas. it's different. more cloudy. cloudier and cloudier. i see a little bit rain around casa grande. >> and we were if buckeye for two days and watching the news while we were in buckeye. it was bad but they said one of so hopefully it's just heavy rain. i can make it through the rain. >> adot was bracing for possible flooding on major roadways. their freeway signs warned drivers to be on the lookout for adverse weather. but it appears the valley pretty mu

i was just she canning with an update to see if this moisture right here has been tropical storm newton. but it was been downgraded to a post tropical storm. all pected inches of rain today. most aas aonto three. to put that into context, the average rainfall for the whole month in tucson is about an inch and a quarter. so that's why that amount of rain, one to three inches, causes flash area. they just can't absorb that much rain in a short period of time into their soil. here is the post tropical storm hours or so. where it will dissipate. along with it, still bringing very heavy rainfall into parts of arizona that just can't handle that kind of rain. so as far as the rest of the tropics go, things are very quiet. in fact, we were talking about another system that was south of -- of the dominican republic yesterday. had a low chance of developing. now it's off the map. but we still have watching a high chance for development of the coast of africa. the great ne is that it will not have an impact on the u.s. at this point it remain out in the atlantic ocean. so let it develop and let i
