another major storm is brewing in the tropics. >>> what a beautiful day. our weather for the next five days, a chance of a shower on sunday. call it frankly beautiful towards the labor day holiday weekend. our attention needs to go down to the caribbean. we are looking at a tropical low, about 300 miles east of the vacation islands. in the national hurricane center, at any moment within the next couple of days, that tropical low could become erica. interest in the united states virgin islands and puerto rico. before you think it would favor another atlantic event, there's a lot of steering currents, both water and air and there's a whole lot of ocean in general that could affect the movement of this tropical low. so we'll keep a keen eye down to the south. and just understand the tropics have gone active on us again. we may be welcoming erica. hopefully not to the united states. our weather is gorgeous. details coming up shortly. >>> as forecasters keep an eye on the atlantic. the pacific is bracing for hurricane jimena. shelters are being put up and resor

this is a little bit of the tropical weather i wanted to mention. this is the new tropical storm. it's erica. the hurricane hunters were in investigating it today. i want to show you the patterns that the models are taking it, moving to the northwest. high temperatures today into the 70s. normal is about 84 degrees. we are definitely in bonus territory. we expect that to continue. baltimore 72, dulles 73. once the sun goes down, it won't take long for the temperatures to get chilly, back to the 40s. 49 frederick. chantilly 55. in some places, we may challenge record low temperatures or getting close. clear and chilly in the suburbs. another nice day for us. sunny and mild and maybe just a little bit warme than today. 79 degrees. we had our clear skies and the puffy cumulus clouds. i want you to see just off the coast we don't have to go too far to find an unsettled boundary. this is an old frontal system. later this week it may be close enough to deliver increase in clouds and maybe showers. that would be thursday into friday. what about tropical storm erica? this will be an impor

this is our new tropical storm erica, formed today about 5:00 and went straight from a wave to a tropicaltorm. it looks very impressive on satellite pictures. we were noticing a lot of outflow with it, very symmetrical. the hurricane hunters were in it and found winds of 50 miles per hour and it's slow-moving, about 390 miles east of the northern leeward islands and the winds of 50. it's crawling around and expect it to move to the northwest at 9 miles an hour and it's labor day weekend. where is this going? it will be south of our area and really even so south of florida by sunday and it, they just took it at a tropical storm to 50 miles an hour and hurricane center believes it's going to run into an area of warm water and very high wind shear that will weaken it a bit. erica needs to be watched, especially if you have plans on the east coast. for labor day, we're going to bekay here. it won't have gotten this far north. no matter where it goes and we're not sure where it's going at this point and tomorrow, we're sure the high pressure is ruling the roost with a cool start and sunshine i

another tropical storm. this is tropical storm fred, was a tropical wave just yesterday.be a hurricane by i'd say tomorrow or the next day. it should arc to the north and just be a fish storm, but interestingly we're getting off to the peak of hurricane season, two days from now. we have a tropical storm out there, fred. something we'll be watching. so far no problems out of that guy. what about the heavy rain? all around the outer banks. most of the showers are just offshore from cape hatteras. you get up to the north, it is filling in nicely across the virginia area, stretching into d.c. take you live to norfolk. here's what it looks like. the rain has been out there, steady at times overnight last night through this morning. skies are beginning to brighten, but i think it may be a sucker hole. more showers this afternoon. could be heavy at times, especially later today as more squalls come in off the tlachbt ick. what about the next 48 hours? most of the rain in that region. norfolk, that pink color, about two to three inches of rain a possibility over the next two day

this almost became a tropical storm and is now moving inland. look at some of these rainfall totals. 4.27 in ocean city and most of that was yesterday. 4.17 in atlantic city. 3.9 in no. baltimore county. that is why this northeast corner has been hit the hardest and they are under a flood warning. small streams and creeks in northern baltimore county could see some floating on going. you want to be very careful. you do not want to drive through a flooded road way. the winds were stronger but we got significant gusts moving in. these are blowing at about 25 miles per hour. it is breezy, wet and cool. the typical high would be about 80 but we are in the '50s and '60s were the rain has been coming down fairly steady. we will see a temperature range in the '50s and '60s. clouds and occasional showers will continue to come down from baltimore north. this will continue to slowly worked his way up to the north and west in pennsylvania. this will organize and come at us and it will kick the system off of the atlantic coast but it will get into pennsylva

the remnants of what have once a tropical storm and tropical rains continue across the deep south theyere plaguing the storm system between arkansas and texas for about a week. and still meandering upper level system with the influence of tropical moisture so more flooding rains, east texas through arkansas and atlanta, georgia has recovered from near severe drought but recovering with the range of five to 20 inches of rainfall in their metro area. more heavy rain expected for them today and unfortunately that has been a major problem. a lot of communities washed out, a lot of bridges washed out. there were quite a few water rescues just yesterday alone. again, we'll watch the winds because of this system. the remnants of what was once a hurricane fred. sliding through north carolina and could be building its way northbound. if that hits us it would be lunchtime through this afternoon. so plan for the wet weather. take the umbrella with you, temperatures make it up to 77 so after the morning fog it's just left with cloudy skies. and then watching the rain try to move in. tonight, showe

tropical rain storm or tropical cyclone? this storm did not have a name. look right there. this was around 11:00 a.m. the circulation around this system, an eye right there. and the worst of it was around the coast of new jersey, the coast of delaware. they had winds up to 60 miles per hour. they had 19 foot waves off the coast. and over four and five inches of rain through some of the communities of new jersey. now our low is pulling away. so the rain, watch it. it's opening up as the center of the storm relaxes. most of the rain up in pennsylvania. even around here we are seeing some of that rain shift down to the south and off to the west. 0.8 of rain here. to salisbury, to philadelphia and movin u ennnal pennsylvania. there is wildwood, new jersey, over four inches. toms river three and atlantic city. harford and cecil count i is where most of it is now. here, showers around montgomery county. south dry. it's the southern edge of this that is starting to sink further southward. around silver spring, around wheaton, light showers moving through. gaithersburg, through. ne
