troy johnson is here with today's talk around town. there is strong reaction to this. some folks are so deeply disturbed saying that it will hurt efforts to maintain diversity on college campuses. others say the efforts have gone too far. >> disturbed is the way to put it. pe are held up in the trump administration right now dealing with health care. we talked about that last week. economic reform, something the president has ant gotten to yet. and today with the limited legal immigration. people are asking me where did this come from? you have to go back to 2008 when abigail fisher was denied admission to university of texas law school. this may have been the linchpin for this. she maintained that affirmative action kept her out of the school. they said her grades didn't let her qualify. her lawsuit said that affirmative action discriminates against white americans. listeners are saying they are angry about this because when you think back to civil rights act all of that legislation enacted to address long term discrimination in america against african-americans on ma

troy johnson, all right, lots to talk about here, today, president trump pretty much the rising calls for the removal of these confederate statutes and saying that "the history and culture of our great country is being ripped apart, so what have your listeners been saying about this. they have said not only are these monuments, they have been for ar years but now people are telling me they feel like his comments are divisive, as ll people have told me it's damming when some of the voices applauding the positions happened to be former grand wizards of the kkk and they were telling me that they feel like this is unchartered territory. we're haven't seen a president operate in this fashion and they think it's unfortunate that he doesn't understand that his words matter, also, people reacting to the steve bannon comments that he made in a newspaper saying that the president may feel that this is politically working for him, well, they're very concerned about that. >> you know what may be a positive about this, is seeing and hearing more and more people trying to dig into why those confede

troy johnson is here with today's talk around town. homicide rate continues to soar along with residents' frustration and demands that the mayor do something. what do your listeners think of free college as one way. >> young people are interested to hear that as part of mayor's plan to fight crime. what is interesting is the mayor talked about a variety of things, not only education for young people but increasing drug treatment access and ramping up police training so they know how to deal with situations. we can remember back to freddie gray and consent is supposed to go online. a lot of people say it is a great way to get folks' skill sets up as development continues in the city of baltimore and for the young people which is another area that she really targeted in her speech she was saying this was one way to keep them occupied. >> the unemployment rate is pretty high. >> absolutely. >> on another topic as the nfl season gets ready to start people are also talking about colin kaepernick and the fact that he still hasn't been picked
