>> they will be inspecting the card readers at all of the gas pumps and keeping an eye out specifically for credit card skimming devices like the one pictured here. this was found attach today a gas pump just a few days ago. that is now prompting police to jump into action. >> customers were admittedly uneasy after learning about a skimmer attached to a push. it was one of four found in osceola county. >> they are one step ahead. i guess we all wish they would put their talent to better use. >> last week's discovery prompting the manager to swap out the card readers at every single pump. politician issuing an alert to consumer to prevent becoming a victim, they suggest using your hand to conceal your pin number and pull on the card reader. p there is a skimmer, it will detach easily. and above all, keep an eye on your accounts. if you spot an unfamiliar charge, report it to your bank immediately. >> police say so far no fraud has been reported associated with the skimmers found over the past week. in a little over two hours, police will start their city wide sweep across the city of kissimmee. the way, looking to get results results. >> in brevard county, firefighters trying to figure out what caused this palm bay home to go up in flames. you can see from pictures crews tweeted out how intense that fire was when they arrived. it happened on raven wood street and it is unclear if anyone was home at the time. we'll stay on top of that. in marion county, deputies are working to get results after two men tried to rob employees at a store with one of them wearing quite a disguise. we have pictures from security cameras at the family dollar in marion oaks. you can see one of the men, he is wearing what looks like a mask and sunglasses on top of it, a scarf, also gloves. deputies say the men armed with a gun approached two employees in the parking lot last week as they were leaving prt night. they forced those employees back into business so they could pull off this robbery. no one was hurt but deputies are asking anyone with information at this guy. if you know anything about it, call the sheriff's office. >> a pastor at the center for controversy and a lawsuit at his own church has stepped down from his post. we have been problems at the church since december after a woman claims she had an affair with david cheney. the whole thing later ended up in court after that woman said the church did not follow through with an agreement to pay her hundreds of dollars if she agreed to leave the congregation. we learned the bio is gone from the website along with all mentions of him. so we called church leaders to confirm this information but so far our calls have not been returned. we'll let you know once we learn more about this story. >> an autopsy planned for a body found floating. sky 6 was over the water yesterday after a fisherman found the remains caught on a crab trap in the water near the orange avenue bridge. in his early 70's. they say he was fully clothed and the body showed no signs of trauma. investigators say they know who the man is but they are not releasing his name until they can talk to his family. it is a big day for the candidates in the white house race. a week after the iowa caucuses and it is new hampshire voters costing their ballot. johnny, what do you have for us? we have reports of an accident in kissimmee which is causing road blockage. watch out for some blockage. i'll keep you updated. as far as the interstates go, the main roads, those are moving along just fine. westbound traffic moving away from you by lake mary. we are doing ok except for some accidents on the minor roads. we'll go back to you. >> now back to breaking news we are following on the high seas. the royal caribbean cruise ship runs into a huge storm. >> passengers on board went on social media posting pictures of the damage. kirsten is at port canaveral where the ship is set to arrive in a few hours. what is the latest we have learned about that? >> to give you a perspective, this ship had to sail through the same storm that is hitting new england today as a blizzard. we are talking 100 plus per hour winds that is rocky conditions for passengers. some have been taking to social media and posting about their experience. let's look at the video showing when the storm hit, the captain asked all guests to stay in their rooms until the weather improved. there are no reports of any injuries. the cruise line said there isn't damage to the ship itself but these pictures from passengers don't lie. they show furniture flipped and crashed flower pots. the crew left new jersey and was supposed to make it to bahamas and make it back in a week. the ship has enough room to hold 5,000 passengers. the stops in cape canaveral is a scheduled stop. we have seen a couple of cruiseships come through. not tan them by the seas. it is scheduled to make an appearance by this afternoon and we should be able to so see how it weathered the storm. shot during an armed robbery. workers inside tell us four masked men walked into the store and pointed a gun at the clerk. after firing a warning shot, another clerk walked back into the store and was shot several times. a third worker who was also in the store spoke to us about this terrifying situation. >> i saw him standing there, holding his leg, told me he got >> the victim was shot three times in the leg but should be ok. johnny is following the breaking developments on this story. we'll have an update in the next half-hour. >> there are new developments surrounding the shooting of a 13-year-old boy. >> deputies say it appears of it an accident. we are learning a convicted felon is under arrest. right now the teen is is being mark, the owner is is facing charges. >> deputies say he shouldn't have owned a gun in the first place because he is a convicted felon. hospital. they are gathering information and talking with family members as that teen recovers. >> i know the kid got shot in the neck. apparently they were playing with guns. >> next door neighbor says he home. a 13-year-old rushed to the hospital after what appears to be an accidental shooting. >> only news 6 was rolling as a man was placed in handcuffs. this morning, we are learning it was his gun that went off shooting the boy. >> deputies say walter wasn't at home yesterday afternoon but family members were. investigators say two 18-year-old found his gun and accidentally fired. he was arrested for possession of a firearm. >> a close knit family, well rounded. i think it is a case of kids goofing off, not knowing what can happen. >> i did some digging into the background and found he served five years for drug trafficking. he had bonded out of jail overnight. we are gathering more information about him. i can tell you, i'm asking deputies if anyone else will be facing additional charges in the shooting. as soon as we learn anything new, i'll make sure to pass it along right here. >> that shooting was just part of a violent weekend in orange county. right now, three gunmen remain on the run after a shooting at an orlando nightclub that left two people dead. we brought you this as breaking news yesterday after as many as three gunmen started shooting universal boulevard. police haven't released any details about the gunmen or details surrounding the conditions of victims. we know one of the victims was in critical. officers say they are reviewing security from the club to get a better idea of what went down and who those gunmen could be. >> plans for this downtown ucf campus could take a step forward. in a few hours, city leaders will discuss a plan to give the school millions of dollars to make it all happen. officials looking to build that campus and a so-called creative village. this is where the amway used to be. it could serve up to 10,000 students. commissioners will take an agreement to set up money towards this project. that will cover everything from land to road improvements and parking. the project is is far from a done deal. just last year the governor vetoes $15 million for this project. the makers of an energy drink. they'll start filing offense 100 lawsuits against drink makers. so farther not giving details but attorney matt morgan tweed out a study that shows drinks can increase heart palpitations palpitations. a press conference is set for 1:00 and we'll keep you updated. >> one of the candidates vying for president will make a stop in marion county later today. ben carson will be holding a luncheon at the country club starting at noon. this event is all about raising money for his campaign. tickets start at $250. the rest of the candidates are spending the day troy johnson. troy, some of your listeners have strong feelings about his legacy. here is what they said about comments he said about a case that came before the court. >> you're looking at the passing of justice scalia, you're probably losing the most conservative justice on the court. he definitely wasn't a friend of what we would call liberals, whether it's african-americans or people in the lgbt community, but he did, you know, try to protect the constitution. >> that's malcolm who i spoke to, he's from hyattsville. there's a lot of strong feelings because there's a sense from folks that justice scalia's hard line while he was on the bench really had a negative impact on african-americans. act in 2013, before the court he said it was a racial entitlement that ignores the white population. the voting rights act of 19 6 obviously enables african-americans to vote and not be disenfranchised. just as recent as december making disparaging remarks about african-american students suggesting they'd fare better at less challenging schools. those kinds of things are resonating with the people that i talk to, and they kind of think back to, you know, who nominated him, president reagan and the lasting legacy that president reagan's term had on african-americans. so there are a lot of things people certainly not sad to see him pass away, but there are certainly concerns about what he did on the court. >> when presidents nominate a supreme court justice it has ramifications for decades to come. gr president obama should nominate a new justice. again malcolm is speaking for several of troy's listeners. >> it's interesting that people want to stop the president from doing his job. that's a little disheartening and disingenuous to those who want to claim that they're all about the constitution. then they should look no further than to see that the president has the constitutional right and responsibility to replace supreme court justices. >> and malcolm talking about something that a lot of people were saying to me. it's the president's constitutional obligation to make this decision while he's in office. there's nothing that says your term ends after three years. your term ends after four years. there's already been a mandate in terms of what people were telling me in the last election when he was re-elected. so they say that they understand the politics behind it because if there was a republican president in office and the situation was reversed, we'd expect the same kind of conversations, but they certainly kind of feel like this is the same deal with throughout both of

sergeant marcy pierce wanted to be in court when the 15-year-old faced a judge for the first time. news 6 reporter amanda castro spoke with the sergeant today and joins us live. first, what happened with ortiz today? >> reporter: well, ortiz will spend at least 30 days in jail. during that time, the state is supposed to look over all of the evidence to see if it could charge him as an adult. sergeant pierce had nothing to say to the teen who she saw for the first time today since investigators say he ran her over last week. >> i was on the car and he was going fast. >> reporter: sergeant marcy pierce, walking into court on crutches, some stitches just removed but still in a lot of pain. accused of running her over in court this afternoon. >> reporter: the 15-year-old is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. the orange county sheriff's office says pierce was serving a warrant friday morning. that's when investigators say ortiz deliberately ran a deputy over in a stolen car. he was on the run for days. until he turned himself in to authorities on monday. >> he tried to kill me. >> reporter: ortiz's mother also in court. she refused to talk to us. >> no comment. >> reporter: do you have anything to say to sergeant pierce? the sergeant in tears while walking out of the courtroom. thanking her fellow deputies and the community for its support. ortiz is back in court next month. the state attorney's office says we should get an update then on those charges and could find out as an adult. >> thank you. >> a former isleworth millionaire could be getting a new trial. that means bob ward could be getting a new trial soon. here's more with louis bolden >> reporter: today is definitely a victory for the 67-year-old bob ward. his attorneys say their next step is to try to get a bond for ward as he, once again, prepares for trial. bob ward was fingerprinted and handcuffed after being convicted of second-degree murder in 2011. prosecutors hoped ward would be locked up for life. instead, almost five years later, his 30-year sentence for overturned. >> it wasn't just one isolated incident. trial. >> reporter: ward has been happened. attorneys should have objected when prosecutors used evidence that violated his right to remain silent. >> we need to bring the lawyer in here before doing anything. but i'm really concerned about my wife, my kids right now. >> reporter: the judge agreed there were eight references to ward in custody where prosecutors commented to ward about asking for an attorney. >> we need to get an attorney in here. >> we'll do that. i can't talk to you. >> i know. >> reporter: in her order, the judge wrote all post-arrests are protected with or without an attorney during teen who brutally murdered her ex-boyfriend learned her new sentence today in court. amber wright will still serve life in prison but her sentence will be subject to review after 25 years. wright killed her 15-year-old ex-boyfriend back in 2011. police say she and others lured seth jackson to a home in somerfield, beat him, killed him, and burned his remains. wright and three other teens were sentenced to life in prison in 2012, but she got a new trial because the u.s. appeals court ruled that wright was not read her miranda rights before her interview with investigators. >> a 22-year-old man shot at his mother's doorstep. now his mom is pleading for someone to turn in the gunman. orlando police say they found roderick brown on the front step of an apartment with a bloody towel over his gut. he was shot three times by three armed men at the apartment. door and heard someone say "give it up" and gunshots. >> i was in my bed asleep. lightly sleeping. all i heard was gunshots in my living room. >> my brother was sitting on the ground. he kept saying he okay. just get an ambulance. that's all he could say. >> brown had surgery last night and is expected to survive. police say to run down his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend with his car. ashley gould told deputies kenneth taylor hit christian adams with his car on stillwater avenue in deltona. she says she used to date taylor. gould says adams saw them, drove up and striking adams on the right side and running over his foot and then rammed his car into the front of her car. taylor is charged with aggravated battery, turtle, one of the most endangered sea turtles was stuck in a crab trap. the deputy was able to cut the line and get that big guy free. so he's out there and all right now. good job, fellows. >> i friday. we've learned the 34-year-old danielle evans drove toward the surgery and the two officers. the officers then fired shots. we're told she and two men stole the car at gunpoint from the 66-year-old norris hicks. officers tracked them down a couple hours later. the shooting happened in the parking lot of the bakery at south street and bumby avenue. evans was not seriously hurt. and questioned. the officers are on leave while fdle investigates. >> big developments tonight on the spread of the zika virus. the world health organization declared the mosquito-borne illness a over the scene on north wickham road in melbourne around noon today. according to our news partners at "florida today," the 54-year-old sandra cook and 60-year-old man were found with gunshot wounds. both were dead at the scene. we're told cook was a teacher at right now, police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting. >> a warmer day to kick off february to say people. she took the victim's wallet and cell phone. she's charged with robbery and aggravated battery. >> an unusual scene at a popular orlando hotel. a couple attacked police son was standing right next to them. this happened friday night at the hard walk at the universal citywalk. police say the man refused to leave and used his head to shove one of the officers. his wife, dawn, then started yelling at one of the officers before kicking one of them in the leg, knocking him down. they're both charged with battery on an officer. their son is with a relative tonight. >> well, it is the frontal zone here, dangerous storms there. all this moisture is going to overrun us during the overnight hours. on-the-town forecast this evening, you're fine. we're mostly cloudy and not raining much boat washed up in indian harbor beach overnight. this shows where his boat was found. friends say he never came back from a trip yesterday and investigators found his cell phone on the boat. florida today reports the coast guard is bringing in a bigger boat, along with an aircraft to help with search efforts. we'll continue to follow this and bring you updates as we get them. >> another case of the zika virus reported in florida. state health officials say the new case brings the statewide total now to 21. through a push alert on our news 6 mobile app this afternoon. the mosquito-borne illness is spread in eight counties and the latest in broward. all cases are travel related and do not involve pregnant women. right now, florida has thousands of kits to test for that virus. >> new video shows the take-down of a suspect in seminole county. sanford police say he caused a serious crash before taking off. here's a closer look at that. the sheriff's office chopper video shows the suspect running off. we're told he ran a stop sign on east 20th street and took off when a sanford officer tried to stop him. the car hit another vehicle before rolling over. he and two other cars inside that car ran off. officers caught all of them. they also found drugs and cash inside the car. all three suspects face several charges. >> new developments tonight in the case against two teens. they're accused of running over an orlando police officer last summer. one of those teens, angel nieves was arrested. nieves was in the car with him at the time. a judge pushed back their april 11th kissimmee and this is the polk and osceola county line here. much of this is going toward you in polk. if it comes to the east that much, if it breaks out a little more, we'll have scattered showers. big rain is in the gulf of mexico, way back up around the panhandle, a cold front is on the way. here's daytona beach right now. it's been this kind of day. a lot of cloud cover. but we were mild. sunshine was trying to beat through the clouds. the wind support did it for us, it really did. right now, from the south-southeast at 9 miles per hour in daytona beach with a reading of 70. so even trail. they say no one ended up getting shot but they found drugs and a gun in one apartment. so far the names of those >> a major sweep aimed at keeping your information safe. police expected to inspect dozens of gas pumps after the discovery of skimmers. >> this is when crooks switch out readers to get your banking information and then steal your money temperature devices have been found at four 7-eleven stores. what will police be looking for at those pumps today? >> they will be closely inspecting the card readers and looking for skimming devices. this was found attached to a pump a few days ago. that is now prompting police to jump into action. >> where will you be safe safe? >> they were uneasy after learning of a skimmer attached to one of these pumps. osceola county in a week's time. >> they are one step ahead and everybody is playing catchup. we all wish they would put their talent to better use. >> last week's discovery prompting the manager to swap out the card readers at every single pump. police issuing an alert to consumers to prevent becoming a victim, they suggest using your hand to conceal your pin number. also physically pulling on the card reader. over the past week. in a few hours, the city wide sweep will be starting in the city of kissimmee. we are going to be with police every step of the way as they look to get results in the skimming crackdown. >> in brevard county, figure out just what caused this palm bay home to go up in flames. you can see from the pictures crews tweeted out how intense the fire was when they arrived. it happened on ravenwood street southeast. it is unclear if anyone was home at the time or there were any yours. deputies working to get results after two men tried to rob employees of a store with one of them wearing quite a disguise. take a look at these pictures taken from security cameras cameras. he has a mask on, one of them wearing glasses over the mask with a scarf and gloves. deputies say the men armed with guns approached as they were leaving prt night. then they forced them back into the business so they could pull off the robbery. no one was hurt. deputies are asking anyone with
