troyer. this is not cnn's reporting so i'm reading the information now from an e-mail that i've got -- there was an e-mail that went out supposedly from josh powell that said "i am sorry, good-bye," and as you were saying -- can you tell us about that? do you know anything about that? >> well, we have that e-mail. it's been forwarded to us as well. we're still investigating what the source of that e-mail is. there's nothing that tells us it wasn't from him and the probability is that it is. but we still have part of this fire burning. it burned so hot, they're still putting it out. our arson people are doing what they can but detectives are checking whether that e-mail came from him or not. the probability is that it is from him because what happened is exactly what happened here. this fire was intentionally set. and it burned very hot. worry we're lucky that nobody else was hurt, it is just unfortunate that the two boys were involved in this and he took them with him. >> i can imagine. as we

on the phone with me now is ed troyer from the sheriff's office in pierce county, washington.r side of these boys' graves. why did you do that in. >> well, the bottom line is because we wanted to make sure when anybody ever wanted to visit those boys that they didn't look down and see josh, their dad's tombstone or some sort of memorial or plaque next to them. that way, who wants to be a murder victim and have your murderer rest in peace next to you for eternity or have a plague or marker on the grave for everybody to look at? it would have been shameful. we wanted to take this land and give it to the cox family and let them do whatever they want with it, something that honors those two boys. >> ed, let me ask you specifically, whose idea was this? was it the sheriff, was it someone in the community who said we have to do something? >> well, we knew it was going on. we heard from the family attorney and there's a lot of outrage here. the sheriff of the county came up with an idea to see if we could get the plots next to or near where this is going to happen. crimestoppers is a

. >> for now, we turn to detective ed troyer, detective, thank you for being here this morning, basede-mail that josh powell sent to his attorney "i'm sorry, good-bye," it's pretty clear this was intentional. were there any other messages sent? >> well, we've still yet to confirm it came from him. there's nothing to lead us to believe it didn't come from him all the evidence here at the scene, how horrific and how fast, it was done intentionally. we believe josh powell murdered his two sons and killed himself an it was done intentionally and there was nobody else involved. >> josh powell lost his bid for custody of his two sons. do you think this was' precipitating event and led to the disappearance of his wife? >> well, this case is complicated. it's part of our case. and with the disappearance of his wife we're working together with them. there's a lot of aspects of this case that could have been weighing on him. this wasn't anything different than him losing custody. he wasn't expected to get custody so that may or may not have been a contributing factor. we may never know because

so at this particular point, i think they're figuring out -- i did speak with ed troyer this morning who was on the ground, fire marshals, investigators, arson detectives are out there working from the least amount of damage to the most damage to figure out exactly what started this and how exactly these children were killed. >> michelle, when we talk about the psychosexual evaluation, explain to all of us how josh powell got to that point. it's strictly because of the incriminating evidence of child pornography found in his home? >> that, some other evidence found on computers. it's the fact that he had not been forthcoming. i think there was a lot of factors and investigators were trying to figure out how do we get more from josh than what we're able to get without concrete evidence to move forward to say he is our suspect, we're going to arrest him for the disappearance of susan powell without even having her body. and so i think that a lot of that along with not having his children, not having susan around, facing tremendous scrutiny from the media really kind of in essence made
