it's all happening about 12 miles east of truckee. we're getting these images from highway department in truckee. good morning, everybody. welcome to this busy morning newscast. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. dozens of wildfires rage through the state, a brand new problem at a popular vacation spot. right now crews are trying to keep that wildfire from growing. >> this is new video into our newsroom. the farad fire has burned 600 acres. it's only 5% contained. mike, i called the chp moments ago. they're up against a tough one with this fire. this fire is raging and both of us know that i-80 is very popular this time of year. >> i just drove that route coming back from reno. if it happened now, i wouldn't be able to get home for tomorrow's shift. fortunately we're here to tell you what's going on. here's bait, rigthe bay, right? i-80 comes across the bay. most folks from here will take i-80 here, and for my family we traditionally cut down 89 toward tahoe city. that's where alpine and squaw valley are. you know that route.
