then i turned to lord trudeau. that's the very best account we have of the sussex raid. i'll say one more nice thing about will green. i assume this will be in volume three. will has written the first of three volumes on the petersburg campaign published by unc press. we'll touch on it but not in the detail that will would do. i'm like i'm going to check this thing out. i drove down to sussex county. got into the tax ledgers and tried to identify homes that were destroyed by warren's men, which i did. came up with roughly about 15 homes. as i left the building, i noticed there was a county seal framed on the wall and a letter next to it. that letter was from a man named joseph murphy. he was up with of warren's soldiers and when he returned this county seal, it was accompanied with a letter written in 1901. the letter said that he accidentally, i love that party. he accidentally moved the handle of the press and the seal just happened to fall out. he said that for some time he wanted to return it and he acted upon that impulse. it's in the courthouse. okay. take a pictur
