deadly terror attack in new orleans, the tesla cybertruck exploded and caught fire outside the trump towers in las vegas. a short time ago, elon musk posting on x, "we have now confirmed the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. all vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion." the sheriff said the truck exploded in front of the trump building just before 9:00 this morning, injuring seven people. those injuries reported as minor. and killing the driver. the tesla truck seemed to take the brunt of the blast. the glass front doors of the building still intact. this new drone video reveals the evidence in the back of the truck. >> gasoline canisters, campfield canisters, and large firework mortars. as you look, the exterior of the truck is intact as it sits there. the fact this was a cybertruck really limited the damage that occurred inside of the valet. >> law enforcement is investigating a number of leads that have not identified the person who died in the vehicle. sources

i wouldn't be surprised, either, if the symbolism of the tesla truck blowing up in front of the trump towerasn't somehow tied in on this as a way to try and intimidate and or threat president trump. so what i would say is, is this we need to determine whether or not this individual bin jabar did, in fact, go into mexico two days ago. what that could tell us is, is that there's potentially a joint operational center of sorts with isis or with other terrorist factions in mexico who are commanding and giving activation orders. and so we need to start thinking about where the ties are. we need to start looking at how they were activated. and extremism has become a prevalent manner. and then also what the motive was behind this. but i can tell you this was absolutely a terrorist attack. and to rule that out by the fbi is foolish. >> yeah. and, you know, we know that that truck at one point back in november was in the eagle pass area. it changed hands. we don't know much about jabbar's movements yet. we know he's from texas. we'll follow those. absolutely. key to this, i want to play a witness st

las vegas time, we received a report of an explosion and a fire at the trump towers, the iconic hotel that you see behind me. we were told that a 2024 cybertruck pulled up to the front of the hotel. and in fact, i can tell you it pulled right up to the glass entrance doors of the hotel. we saw that smoke start showing from the vehicle, and then a large explosion from the truck occurs. >> now, the sheriff was quick to say that they do not believe that there's any further threat to the community, but also did mention they are, of course, looking into many different leads. they still have many questions that still are unanswered. they don't know exactly why this exploded. if it was an issue with the car. they said that that car started smoking before it exploded. they don't know if it was an explosion because of other nefarious reasons. so they're looking into it. but they believe at this time that there's no further threat to the community. cnn has reached out to tesla for comment. we have not yet heard back and president elect trump's son, eric trump, did tweet out extending gratitude
