just issued it's new report on trumpcare. the report makes clear, trumpcare would be a cancer on the american health care system. causing costs to skyrocket, making coverage unaffordable for those with preexisting conditions and many seniors and kicking millions off their health insurance. unless you're a healthy millionaire, trumpcare is a nightmare. this report ought to be the final nail in the coffin of the republican effort to sabotage our health care system. republicans in washington and the president should read this report cover to cover, throw their bill in the trash can, and begin working with democrats on a real plan to lower costs for the american people. there's a lot to unpack in the report, i'll just focus on a few provisions. first, costs. cbo report makes clear, you're premiums are heading up for the next several years if trumpcare passes. 20% increases in 2018, 5% following year. now republicans are crowing about premiums going down in the outer years. that's because the coverage is so bad, of course the prem

-- trumpcare 3-point0. now, now there it is no bipartisan dialogue on this and i'm certainly not invited to listen in so i can't tell you what they are coming up with, but i can tell you this, it's a process completely different than when we had a bipartisan over year-long process to debate and examine the question of the affordable care act -- obamacare. the finance committee held 53 hearings. they spent eight days marking up the bill. that was the committee's longest markup in over two decades. they considered 135 amendments. that was one of the two major committees that worked on obamacare. the other was the health, education, labor and pension, or known as the help commodity. they held 47 -- help committee. they held 47 hearings. they held public, bipartisan, press welcomed meetings, hearings, roundtables and walk throughs and had a month-long markup. i was on the committee. we had a square table. two each side we had republicans and democrats. we had 333 bipartisan -- we had 300 bipartisan amendments.

but let's be very clear, the principles behind trumpcare in the house and trumpcare in the all-male, closed door, senate republican working group are the same. that it's fine for sick people and seniors to pay more for worse coverage, that insurance companies should be able to sell people insurance that's no better than snake oil, and that if people nationwide lose coverage altogether, it's somehow no problem. so as long as the wealthiest get their tax breaks and president trump gets his partisan political win, they're fine. those are the principles families are rejecting. those are the principles democrats here today are rejecting. and senate republicans should know until they do us well by dropping repeal and their partisan efforts to sabotage the health care system in ways that hurts families and raises their costs, they are standing squarely in the way of real solutions to problems far too many people across the country are facing when it comes to their health care. i hope the republicans take a hard look at the facts today and change course. and if they do, i know that us democr

score might be, they rushed trumpcare through. no hearings, no debate, no score. never mind that this legislation remakes one-sixth of our nation's economy. it has life-and-death consequences for millions of american families. republicans were haunted by the ghost of c.b.o. scores past, so they went ahead without one. now, when the c.b.o. analyzed the first version of trumpcare earlier this year, it concluded that 24 million fewer americans would have health insurance if it became law. we also learned the bill would gut medicaid, crush seniors with higher premiums, and would increase out-of-pocket expenses for americans of all ages with higher deductibles and co-pays. given that there were few differences between the first and second versions of trumpcare, we can expect that today's c.b.o. analysis will likely show many of the same grave consequences as the first one did. only now, of course, trumpcare includes a new amendment that allows states to opt out of the requirement to cover people with preexisting conditions. it's hard to imagine such an amendment would
