take a look at the numbers from the tsa.ion people across the country yesterday. shy of the pandemic record of 1.98 million people screened on sunday. that is the highest number we have seen since march of 2020. much even higher than the numbers over this past memorial day weekend. and now this is what is so interesting for the tsa. it is asking its office staff to come out to the security checkpoints at airports across the country to keep the travelers moving. the tsa does have a hiring goeg goal by hiring 6,000. so far they hired 3500 people so far. the acting tsa administrator says it is on pace to meet that goal. and an official from the tsa tells us that this maneuver will help out for now. here's what the tsa said. >> as we approach labor day, we'll meet or exceed our goal of 6,000 officers to staff the nation's airports. on competent reporting that tsa is prepared and well positioned to help ensure that everyone who wishes to travel will do so safely and securely. >> now the tsa volunteers are not doing the actual sec

tsa says more than 2 million travelers made it through airport checkpoints saturday which the travel industry is the start of a big rebound. so agents say it's the first time since the pandemic at the number of people passing through checkpoints, past 2 million. that'sia million and a half more travelers than the same day last year. so when you compare that to prepandemic numbers and 2019 was still not fully back to normal during the same day on that year, more than 2.7 million people passed through tsa checkpoints. the biden administration has agreed to restore the nearly 1 billion dollars in funding for the state's bullet train after the trump administration put the money in 2019 the high speed rail from la to san francisco was expected to be finished by 2020 when voters approved back in 2008. but after kallis delays, it's now expected to be finished by 2029 last month. the governor unveiled a budget proposal that includes another 4.2 billion dollars for the project which also includes the bond money voters voted for an approved back in 2008. still ahead on the kron 00:00am morning

dozens of the nation's largest airports are facing tsa staffing shortages this month. part of the reason more people are traveling? vaccination numbers continue to climb. tonight, 52% of americans have gotten at least one shot. still, that is quite a bit below president biden's goal of having at least 70% of americans partially vaccinated by the fourth of july. 43% of americans are fully vaccinated. bay area strides ahead of the rest of the country. take a look at this map showing the percentage of fully-vaccinated people, county by county. marin county, as we have been showing, week after week, has been leading the pack and is up to 79% now. san francisco, san mateo county, doing very well with 70%. santa clara, 68%. contra costa, alameda, sonoma, and napa counties. they are all in the 60s. the only outlier, the only one still in the dark green, solano county. right around 50% fully vaccinated there. it's a consequence of the world opening back up. doctors say they are seeing more people getting colds. >> we are seeing a lot of people, who have been vaccinated. but ar
