he texted tsarnaev that he looked like the person on tv. tsarnaev text back, lol. the accused three allegedly met at tsarnaev's dorm room where they received another text from him. and they were about to leave, if you need something in my room, take it. according to authorities, he never thought he would see his friend alive again. and in the dorm the three found fireworks in a backpack with the black powder emptied out, vaseline and a laptop. authorities allege they took the evidence out of the dorm room to protect tsarnaev. the complaints also say the menendmen then took the items in an apartment and put it in a garbage bag and put it in a dumpster with their own trash. the bag with the fireworks is later recovered by investigators after a two-day search at a local landfill, unclear if the laptop is recovered. this cnn exclusive video shows two of the men being taken into custody at the time on immigration violations. the third man, robel phillipos is a u.s. citizen. the three agreed to waive bail. the lawyers say they did nothing wrong. >> he is as shocked and h

the three friends of tsarnaev are now in jail. i want you to look at these faces, they look like they're 10 years old. they're 19. very young. two of the friends are with jahar in times square. they're both 19 from kazakhstan and they were in this country on student visas. the third friend shown here is an american citizen. also 19. according to the complaint filed against them today, the three friends went to tsarnaev's dorm room after the bombing, at that time in the room, they noticed a backpack filled with fireworks that had been -- according to the complaint -- emptied of gun powder. the complaint, there were two here, alleged that the three young men then took that backpack and went back to their homes. it was there that he told authorities that he started to freak out because it became clear from a cnn report that we were watching that dzhokhar was one of the boston marathon bombers. that caused a big debate. again, akortding to the man in his complaint, the three had a discussion about what to do with the backpack and fire

the three are college friends of accused bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev. they are not charged with any direct involvement in the take, but they do face obstruction charges for allegedly trying to cover up for their friend by concealing evidence. susan mcginnis has the details. >> three 19-year-olds appeared before a federal judge on wednesday accused of trying to cover up evidence from the boston marathon bombing for their friend dzhokhar tsarnaev. authorities say azamat tazhayakov and dias kadyrbayev tried to destroy evidence for tsarnaev. the third is accused of lying investigators when asked about it. his mother appeared to be upset as she left the courthouse. federal authorities say the three men didn't connect tsarnaev to the marathon bombings until fbi officials released photos of the suspects to the public. prosecutors says kadyrbayev texted tsarnaev that he looked like one of the suspects. tsarnaev responded lol, short for laughing out loud, and said you'd better not text me. then he said this. i'm about to leave. if you need something in my room,
