we'll start it with tucker barnes and taikd a look at today's forecast. good morning, tucker. >> good morning, tony. yeah, we got some rain showers moving through the area at the moment. they won't last all day. they'll be here for another hour or two and then we should see gradually improving conditions, by that i mean a little less humidity and more sunshine later this afternoon. hang in there. there's the rain shower activity, north to south, pushing through d.c. and to points east, including parts of charles county there and out towards annapolis, anne arundel county still getting some showers. we still have some back to the south and west, manassas still getting a shower too. all of this energy and cloud cover continues to kind of make very slow progress to the east. i think the showers will be out of here shortly and then we'll be dealing with cloud cover for our morning hours before we see partial sunshine later today. once the sun starts to break out, we should see our winds shift around. finally after a couple of days after very humid conditions,

tucker barnes and get the latest on hurricane sandy. you know, we've heard -- we talk about the precise path, the category of the storm. but we're kind of being told not to focus so much on that because it will do a lot more damage than maybe what you think? are we category one? >> we are category one but here is what is amazing. the tropical storm-force winds extend 485 miles from the center. so we are dealing with those winds from the carolinas to maine this morning. we are in the middle of that, of course. it is intensifying. the pressure is falling further. if you are into this kind of thing, down to 946 millibars, which is extremely low pressure. if that is falling, that tells us the storm is getting stronger. >> so it could be worse than we expected? >> i'm not sure it is going to be worse but it is going to as bad as we expected. maximum winds now 85. you get the idea with that pressure falling, it is continuing to do its thing. there is your radar. that is a local look. want to mention that our rain, which has been light in plac

for more on that, let's get to tucker barnes to get an update on the weather. >> you seem so excitedut it. >> well, you know, the sun is not shining. it brings me down a little bit. i don't the sun be shining ever this time of day, right? >> oh, no, tucker! >> wisdom is absolutely right. things are winding down. that doesn't mean we're quite done with the threats. there is one of the leftover bands associated with sandy there out towards annapolis and severna park and that has a pretty good rain rate to t just to the north and west of the city, we have pockets of pretty good rain. you can see most of the area still enduring some showers out there. the rain will be with us through a good part of the day. it will be scattered in nature this afternoon. we'll add to some already pretty impressive rain totals. generally 5 inches plus across the area. that will likely lead to some additional river flooding that. will sort of be the next stage of the story here. we'll be talking about some river flooding across the region and the potential for some tidal flooding as well as we get into the
