the fire started around 1:30 this morning on brewerhouse road off tuckerman lane. nikki burdine was there. she has the latest. >> reporter: investigators say the 75-year-old man who lives here was woken up by the smoke alarm. he tried to fight the flames himself. when he couldn't, he went to his neighbor's house and they called 911. this is what the home looked like when firefighters got here. the elderly man was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. he had second and third agree burns. >> i just felt terrible for the person and hope he's okay. >> reporter: although most of the damage was contained to this home, the neighboring townhouse was damaged as well and had to be evacuated. neighbors in this tight-knit community showing up all morning to see what happened. >> i came out to drive my son to the bus astopnd looking at the unit. it's like, jeez, it's terrible. >> it's a lot of damage, you know. unfortunately you think of that huge family in annapolis. >> reporter: the fire started when an electrical outlet under the couch overheated and caught
