and i went down to the bus -- tucson. and i went down to the bus station one night and there were like, 90 mothers and babies and children down there. and some of the act visitses are -- activists are upset it has been characterized of unaccompanied minors. there were many, many mothers accompanying their children, and our definition is not what their definition is. i met a woman who had, was bringing her daughters, her sister's children with her to florida. and she was responsible for those little nieces and, you know i.c.e. took them away from her because she wasn't the mother. so then those children are redefined as unaccompanied minors. i know there's a lot of criticism for the mothers themselves certainly there were children who came alone but there were many who came with parents. but the reaction to that, these were basically refugee people coming from what is really a war zone in terms of the drugs and the murders and the rapes and the stories that people had were terrible, you know, as well as domestic violence.

very similar to what happened to jared loughner in tucson. the problem is we're not spending any money in a lot of places to really make sure that those red flags have done something with them we have people who are mentally ill, who could be prevented from doing awful things to themselves and others if they had help. there aren't resources available to them. the congress isn't doing anything to address this issue. it's really disappointing the conversation is on the mental health aspect. we need to be careful it doesn't become a smoke screen. they use mental health as a smoke screen and say if you deal with mental health that's it. it's not enough. we need to work on mental health, provide resources for those who need it but also prevent some of these laws from keeping the guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them, who are mentally ill and criminals, that's where i think we need to be careful that while we focus on mental health we don't let that become a smoke screen as it's used too often by the other side on this issue. >> ja
