so as he was growing up, they called him bato or in the gentler moments they called him tumlin, whichhad a nice soft sound and made no sense whatsoever. on the 9th of june, 1908, battle of mayo left his father's house two days before bartos 20th birthday, just say pretty much exactly the same age that you are now. he headed up to the nearest big city from his house. that's his house right there. that would be the door right there? that he would have walked out of. went to the train station, took the train up to the nearest big city near. and from there he took train across the border into france and all the way to the great french port of lahav. and on the 13th of june, 1908, two days after his 20th birthday, he boarded that ship the s.s. la provence. for a six day trip to new york city for his immigration. when that ship arrived in the harbor in new york city and at the port in manhattan, the first class passengers went straight the ship into the city. but apartheid was not a first class passenger. he was a steerage passenger. third class and the third class passengers were loaded on
