turner: both administrations continued funding for nuclear modernization. we had to fight like hell for what was being allocated. overall, the funding is an indication of the need for modernization. it has been recognized by both administrations. the first budget of this administration that came over in 10 years got recognition for the need for modernization. now comes the issue of how the money is allocated and how sufficient will the amount of money appropriated annually be? i think we will continue to have, in the armed services committee and on the house floor, opposition to the united states nuclear modernization. there are those who will vote for an amendment that would result in an unilateral disarmament of the united states and -- in weapons systems. >> sticking with this idea of bipartisanship or different sentiments. because the biden administration does want to try to get back to the iran deal andean -- and then you see this uptake in violence after trying to have this new deal, what is your sense of where congress is or maybe the political stoma

i'm gonna start with you, representative chris turner.he chair of the texas democratic caucus why was it important for you to be here in washington? >> well good evening. thank you for having us. it's important for us to be here because more than 50 courageous texas house democrats made the decision to lead texas, stop republicans led by greg abbott the governor from passing a bill to make it harder for people to vote. we're here to protect the rights of texans and protect their freedom to vote. you have to understand, the special session is poison from the onset. it's against the backdrop of the governor trying to defund the entire legislative range of government because he didn't get his way on everything that he wanted and we don't live in a dictatorship. we live in a democracy. the governor is not a dictator. so that is number one. number two, in addition to that, making a hard vote. this bill, just like bills around the country, is based on the big lie. it's based on ally that donald trump really somehow won the last election, that a

representative turner, which parts of this legislation were you most understanding? you have a lot to choose from. >> that's right, alicia. thank you for winning -- having me on. the latest looks unsurprisingly familiar because we've seen a lot of it before. so in no particular order, some of the most onerous provisions include intimidating voters and election officials in predominantly minority neighborhoods. it includes restrictions on vote-by-mail process, both in terms of limiting who can send in an application, and also making it more difficult for the voter to actually cast a ballot by mail by including a voter i.d. requirement now for mail-in ballots, again, searching for a problem that has not been identified. there are a number of other problematic provisions in the bill that bans 24-hour and drive-through voting. it was used successfully in the last election cycle. the most fundamental problem, this is what the states have in common where republicans are doing this, it's based on the big lie. it's based on the lie that donald trump actually somehow won the
