formally i'm tyler mathisen, in for kelly evans today. as the busiest week of earnings season continues, today is the precise halfway mark so did all the gloom and doom that was predicted happen? bob pisani has been following the story from the new york stock exchange and has the details. hi, bob. >> hello, tyler. it didn't happen but there's still worries. there's bad news and good news at the halfway mark, there's not a lot of surprises earnings are essentially flat compared to the second quarter of last year you see, that's flattish numbers. more good news guidance for the second half, q3 and q4, is not collapsing as many feared a couple months ago, and overall, 2019 earnings i think best can be described as flattish, as you see here. while there's no earnings collapse, the trade war and slower global growth is having an impact on earnings. companies with significant revenue exposure overseas are seeing declines in earnings growth 13% for those with more than 50% of revenue overseas. companies with a more domestic focus, more revenues

tyler. >> thank you very much, melissa. the big story we're watching is what will the fed do and how will the markets react we have been talking about it for weeks, maybe months now. we're less than 48 hours away from one of the most anticipated fed meetings maybe ever. steve liesman will be there to bring us the news, but he's here now to bring us some analysis. steve. >> i think the context for what you're saying, tyler, is the fed is meeting under extraordinary circumstances with markets screaming for a rate cut, and unprecedented political pressure from the president of the united states in fact, with the fed on the verge of giving the president the rate cut he's campaigned for for months, the president tweeting out this morning that that's not enough. he said, quote, the fed has made all of the wrong moves a small rate cut is not enough but we will win anyway over time, the desires of the president and the outlook for the market, however, do align. here is where the probabilities are. july, a 100% probability in the fe

there's good news and bad news on thurnings front, tyler. the good news is this, at the halfway mark, not a lot of surprises. earnings for the second quarter are essentially flat compared to the second quarter of last year. that's up .09% more good news, guidance for the second half, the third quarter and fourth quarter, is not collapsing as many had feared a couple months ago. overall, 2019 earnings can best be described flattish, let's call it. now, while there is no earnings collapse, the trade wars and slower global growth is clearly having an impact on earnings look at these numbers. companies with significant revenue exposure outside the united states, more than 50% of the revenues outside of the united states, are seeing earnings declines on average of about 13%. but companies with a more domestic focus are seeing modest increases there. you see up 3%. that's a sign the global slowdown and trade wars are having some impact on earnings there's three warning signs i see out there for investors. first, stocks are very pricey right now. v

tyler, thank you for having me today. is a development boom that's been taking place over the last seven years in particular it's all related to the youth sports travel. as you said sports tourism marketplace where tournaments are driving players into markets that they would not otherwise visit, on a date that they would not otherwise be there, and the result has been these large mixed-use developments and tax-increment financing and opportunity-zone incentives and others put together by towns to attract big tournament operators and proven operators who can bring tournaments to their communities. it's hundreds of millions of dollars spent annually in the travel segment alone >> who are the big tournament operators? who are the big real estate developers who are taking advantage of these tax incentives and putting their money to work? >> well, we're certainly one of them, but there are other big players. and the baseball marketplace group called perfect game is the largest scouting organization in the country. they'll have

welcome to "power lunch," i'm tyler mathisen and i date myself proudly, ladies and gentlemen the dows low, now down 123 or about a half percent. but why? well, it's basically boeing and caterpillar. s&p 500, it is higher by about a fifth of a percent and nasdaq higher about a half percent. those are sitting at record levels the nasdaq, i should say, despite the hurdles facing big tech as the doj takes aim at the industry more broadly launching a broad review of big tech companies over fresh anti-competitive concerns. elon moy with more >> the justice department plans to look at three areas of concern. are the big tech companies stifling innovation or harming consumers? the doj said there are widespread concerns about practices related to search, social media and some retail the doj does not name specific companies, but google, facebook, am amazon and apple could get caught up in this. without the discipline of meaningful, market-based competition, digital platforms may act in ways that are not responsive to consumer demands the doj is not the only agency in washington responsible for
