area getting a little wet this morning? >> reporter: yeah, this is the scene in marin county along highway 101. nothing too intense, but we will take anything that we could get. it's hard to tell with this type of rain, i guess you could call it, whether or not it is sort of heavy fog or drizzle, it is not really rain, is it? >> the fog will become thick enough and adds up, which those drops don't fall like the rain drops just kind of hang in the air if you're walking through them. they just kind of accumulate. >> it's like a mist. >> yes. almost interchangeable terms. it'll add a little moisture to the fire fuel, so we will take it. we won't complain about it. kept temperatures on the cool side today. a big change from yesterday and take a look at the pattern and the deeper marine layer. that'll be hanging out through the rest of the week. substantially cooler temperatures today. inland parts of the bay area, anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees cooler than where we tapped out on monday, which means comfortable temperatures inland. just a little bit on the cool side around the bay and the coast. later this week, tracking a different type of mouseture that will be coming at us from the south. the remnants of hurricane eugene. now this will show up in the brighter colors where the moisture is more concentrated, but it's going to be kind of dispersed to the greater extent than what you would find on the round of tropical system. the noticeable increase in cloud cover on friday, saturday, sunday, even monday. but any chance of pop-up thunderstorms, we also have to watch that for the dry lightning threat, especially considering what happened three years ago. that'll avoid the bay area. we'll monitor the latest setup, which does not look like a big cause at this point. enjoy the below average temperatures because the next wave of hotter weather is right around the corner, settles in for the second half of the weekend. then it is not going to be as extreme in terms of the peak of the heat. we'll stay below 100 degrees in concord, which will reach 100 at this time of the year, but more of a persistent stretch of hot weather for the second full week of august, so be ready for that further down the line. looking outside right now, the view from the mark hopkins hotel. temperatures are mostly in the 70s. it is not bad for august. 65 degrees, 71 degrees in oakland. and mostly in the mid to upper 70s. santa rosa back down to 72 degrees. heading back out to the coliseum this evening as they continue against the texas rangers. temperatures at the game time will be cooler than the 71 that we would have for that current temperature in the mid to upper 60s for the first pitch. cooling down through the 60s to around 60 degrees as the game is likely widening down depending on if they go to extra innings or not. the fog will be widespread and pretty thick to start the day on wednesday. it'll back up towards the coast as we would head towards late morning. and we'll see some clearing around the bay before lunchtime. but the fog is going to be pretty persistent as we head through the next several days. temperatures tonight, dropping down to the mid to upper 50s to the 60s, then the highs tomorrow, still below average. just a matter of how far below average. generally a couple degrees, but they go to the inland spots that's typically pretty hot that you won't be that hot. only 80 degrees around concord. let's zoom in with the low 60s down the coast around the south end of the bay. a mix of the 70s and the 80s. and also a mix of the 70s and the 80s inland and the east bay in the trivalleys and the delta. 86 in brentwood is the hot spot in august and that is just bonus territory. mid-60s in san francisco and around 70 for oakland. low to mid-70s. once again that fog will be pretty persistent in the north bay valleys until late morning and maybe the early afternoon. further north you go, of course, temperatures toastier approaching 90 degrees. even inland of lake county, not that hot on wednesday afternoon. temperatures will warm up to a greater extent by early next week, the beginning of the longer stretch of warm weather. not that warm around the bay. we don't lose that influence, but they will be a mix of the upper 80s and the low 60s in the north bay. mid to upper 90s inland. but along the coast, hey, no surprise there
