little afterwards to let them know what happened. >> what if you can't get your kid in before the school year starts >> you want to make sure you get that as soon as possible, especially the vaccinations. make sure you get them because it takes a couple weeks for them to take affect a big thing, sports physicals. that's the big thing you want to make sure you get the sports physicals done it is not just sports. it is activities as well do that now. get the paperwork from the school. >> i want to talk about the social and emotional health. you could have all the academics in the world, make sure the backpack is not too heavy, but if your child doesn't feel well emotionally or socially, it can be tough. >> that's why we want to ask you to leave the room so we can talk about some of the issues of them growing up you know, the kids that last year, the boy or girl that was icky to them might not be icky to them. you want to start that conversation about bullying. ask direct questions about their mental health. >> you think then after they leave the doctor's office and we're home, i think sometimes it gets harder when your child is in the tween age. >> keep the conversation open. do lots of listening talk about the expectations for this year, what might go on. >> that's good. >> and do they have any issues at school? ask them that. at the end of the day, what was the best thing today what was the worst thing today and tell them about bullying. >> dr. john, we talked about the physical exam and starting the conversation with our kids now we have make an action plan. tell me about this plan. >> so you want to have an action plan because having a plan helps reduce their stress because they know what's going to happen. let's say they have asthma or a peanut allergy talk to them about medicines here is the medicine you will carry an epipen in your backpack and if you can't find that, the nurse will have an epipen at her nurse's station or nurse's office let's show you how to get there. and make sure they understand they can ask the question, hey, i need to see the nurse because sometimes kids don't want to do that and they might have a first aid kit as well in their backpack. teach them how to stop direct bleeding, pressure on the wound and cpr. any kid, any age can do that. >> what you were talking about with sheinelle with this action plan, what should parents be talking about now? >> one thing to talk about is call 911 if there's any trouble. be the first to call 911 because some people might not call 911 make sure you understand what's going on and we're also going to have a meeting place for you to go to in case something happens and we have to meet somewhere other than our house or if i need to send somebody to school to pick you up, they will have a code word or a code phrase with my kids we had a code phrase if they pick you up, they will know what to say that's the only person you go with >> communication is key. started a fast moving fire that left people in one san francisco apartment building without a place to live. this started about 8:30 last night in the hardware store near 8th avenue and irving. those flames quickly jumped to a shed at the rear after the store and next to those apartments, in that apartment building. at one point, more than 100 firefighters were there at the scene. it took around two hours to contain the flames. fortunately, everyone made it out safely but seven units for heavily damaged and the red cross assisting those who are displaced. >>> time to get a look at the
