charles mcgee, one of the tuskegee airmen and a career officer in the united states air force for 30 years. he holds the u.s. air force record, 409 fighter combat missions flown in world war ii, korea and vietnam. and to his left, herman zeitchik, who i met on my very first world war ii event. pleasure to see you, herman. he landed on utah beach. a soldier in the artillery unit, where he and his fellow soldiers endured heavy machine gun tire, extreme bloodshed and personally witnessed the loss of at least 5,000 troops. to his left, allan wilford howerton. we had a great discussion before we came in here this morning. he and i have a bit of a connection. he has a soft spot for broadcasting. it's one of the things he was working on before he got into world war ii. he was in the 84th infantry division. mr. howerton served with company k, 335th infantry as a rifleman, s messenger, a radio operator, and a communications sergeant. he served both in germany and in belgium. he's also the author -- he's a great resource -- of three world war ii books. on the end, colonel james riffe, u.s. army retired. he started in
