the early estimates are that we could see the biggest payout from the six biggest u.s. bankswe have seen before. jp morgan, bank of america, and citigroup could return more than $140 billion to shareholders. the test shows they built up a stockpile of cash or in the pandemic and clearly you have a lot of investors out there waiting for this greenlight. shery: they can finally start announcing the capital plans to start. what else were the highlight? >> to get to the dividend issue, they will probably start issuing the announcements very quickly. the banks showed that this was important to them. there is an edge that comes from paying out dividends and clearly, you had wall street lobbies even before the results were announced arguing that it was important they would be able to pay these out that at a minimum, this shows that the economy is recovering. there are also seeing u.s. bank valuations recovery. doing better than the european counterparts. we can also see that european banks are below bank value. another thing important to point out is that the banks were given three

basically what it is showing is u.s. banks very well-capitalized, and this is a great day for the banks because they are showing this is the first time they are lifting buyouts in a couple of years. it shows they are better off than they have been in a long time. shery: what does this mean for banks in other regions? nabila: shery, in europe of the banks are still not allowed to say what their dividend and buyback plans will be. remember that during the pandemic last year all around the world, regulators curbed buybacks and dividends. the european banks are still under that order for a couple more months yet. here in asia, the australian banks are certainly gearing up to pay out, to announced capital management plans. and we are expecting about $30 billion in dividends and buyouts on the australian banks. now that the economy is recovering and all the banks have come through pretty unscathed. haidi: finance reporter nabila ahmed in sydney. the house of representatives is set to vote on two bills that may form the core of legis

the top six u.s. banksere expecting to announce on monday that they will be paying out more than 140 billion dollars and that is a record payout from these banks, heidi. haidi: our banks -- shery: banks are passing the test easily. what did the test find? nabila: it looked at a scenario whereby unemployment would hit close to 11% and the stock market would be down more than 50%. the test found that all 23 banks that it looked at would pass with more than double the reserves required. the capital one offer. but morgan stanley was at the higher end and rated the best and you have goldman tax and wells fargo at the lower end. they were the closest to that capital buffer required. haidi: the regulatory pullout continues and we are talking about this doj probe. nabila: banks lost $10 billion from this collapse earlier this year and what we know, that all these banks helped provide leverage so that archegos could buy up big chunks of songs and then start selling when archegos could not meet the margin calls. some

u.s. potentially compounding the problem with its stimulus. i am interested, given your involvement with the bank places. we spoke to larry summers earlier this week for this form, he said he thinks the u.s. policy at the moment are the most irresponsible they have been in 40 years. do you agree with that? axel: they are the most expansionary. the u.s. had a massive fiscal stimulus. monetary policy has not been as expenditure a you look at the balance sheet. many are on the same warning site as i am when traditionally warning about inflation. i think most of the economists, always advocated massive stimulus and fiscal monitoring are getting a bit nervous this time around we might have overdone it. i think it first and foremost holds for the u.s.. there's also a broader issue on the mixed signals. this is a once in a decade, century event. it is hard to calibrate this against our models from the past. i am concerned about inflation overshooting for longer than is currently being price in inflation forecasts for central banks, and tortiously unreliable when it comes to longer-term inflation. we wil

morgan stanley did the best out of the big u.s. banks. on the other end, goldman sachs and wells fargo. dani: if we are talking about stress, one of the big points of stress among the big banks has been arcade ghosts. we learned overnight that they are looking at collapses there. what have we heard so far? >> the big u.s. banks have already lost $10 billion from this saga. we note that what happened are that banks provided leverage to archegos to take outside bets, when those bets soured, banks had to quickly come in and unwind those position. what happened behind the scenes of unwinding those trades is what that doj is looking at. it is going to be the antitrust division asking the banks questions about what conversations went on, what happened in terms of when they decided to dump the stocks, how that was done. we know that some of the banks had questions prior to the unwinding to see if they could do it in an orderly fashion. a lot of shareholders did get burned, some of the shares never recovered, things like viacom, cbs, discovering.

the big u.s. banks inspected to dubai buyback and dividend programs and we are talking about a capital return of 140 billion when they clear the test. shery: what can we expect for european banks? nabila: that is the big question. all eyes are on deutsche bank and credit suisse. deutsche's has been warned that the fed is concerned about its compliance policies and credit suisse, as we know, has been through a couple of crises lately with the collapse of the hedge fund and the supply chain financier. they lost a lot of money from that so people are watching to see what the federal say about those two. shery: nabila ahmed. gary gensler says trillions of dollars worth of assets may need tighter rules. a problem highlighted by this year's market disruptions. he spoke exclusively to bloomberg about what the sec is doing to review rules on everything from meme stocks to blank check companies. denso says investors want to know that there's somebody looking out for them. >> animated every day working families.

u.s. banksre boosting payouts and continuing buybacks after clearing stress tests. among the highlights, morgan stanley doubled its quarterly dividend to $.70, and goldman sachs, up to two dollars a share. morgan stanley did not disappoint. what are they saying now? >> morgan stanley doubled their quarterly dividend and announced billions of dollars in buybacks. they were the highlight today, although wells fargo also offered double in their dividend and offering about $18 billion in buybacks. but morgan stanley, what is important here, basically saying they are super well-capitalized. they are very well positioned. this is a bank that did two big acquisitions last year. this goes to how healthy the banks are. haslinda: nabila, though you expect banks in other regions to follow suit as well? nabila: the big question is about europe. the regulators there are still not allowing banks to lift the current fund dividend buybacks. we will see what happens. in asia, dividends were capped, but buybacks
